How to apply for renewal of Passport :
Application Form No. 1 :
Form No. 1 is to be used for Fresh/ Reissue/Replacement of Lost/Damaged passports/ Change of Name/ Appearance/ Exhaustion of pages . The same application form is used for passports for minors as well.

New passport means applying for a passport for the first time or applying for a passport if you have never held any passport earlier. In case an application was ever made at any Passport Office prior to the present application and whether the application was processed or closed, or even if passport was issued and not received by the applicant, details thereof should be given in the relevant column in the present application. Failure to disclose these details, if any, would invite applicable penalty.

Reissue means an application for another passport in lieu of an existing one which has either expired or is about to expire. An applicant may apply for a new passport in lieu of an expired/ about to expire passport upto 3 years after and 1 year before the expiry of the Passport. Re-issue of passport should not be mistaken for renewal of passport. Renewal of passport means that a passport which was originally issued for a short validity of one to five years - under certain emergency conditions on the part of the applicant - is now required to be extended to its full validity of ten years from the date of issue of the passport.

Renewal is a zero fee service and the application should be made in Form No. 2 A New passport is issued in lieu of a lost/damaged passport.

Application Form No. 2 :
Application Form No. 2 is for making application for Police Clearance Certificate, Deletion of ECR Stamp, Inclusion of Spouse's name and change of address. The same Form is used for renewing a short term validity passport to its full term validity.

Step 1 : Register through the Passport Seva Portal and create a User ID. (Click on "Register" link under the Online Application Filling section on the Home Page).
Step 2 : Login to the Passport Seva Portal with the User ID created in Step 1.
Step 3 : Click "Apply for Fresh Passport / Reissue of Passport" link.
Step 4 : Fill in the required details in the form and submit.
Step 5 : Click the "Manage Appointment" link on View / Print Submitted Form page to schedule an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).
Step 6 : Click the "Print Application Receipt" link to print the application receipt containing Application Reference Number (ARN)/Appointment Number.
Step 7 : Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) where appointment has been taken, along with original documents.

My passport is expired on 2002. I want the details of procedures for immediate reissue of passport.

My passport has been expired in 2011. Kindly let us know procedure for reissuing of passport and would it require police verification? Thanks

You have to fill up the Passport Application Form and apply for "Reissue of Passport". You can submit the filled in application form at a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK with in the jurisdiction of your Passport Office (PO). You must carry original and self attested photocopy of your expired passport and proof of your address. Fresh police verification is initiated if the passport has expired more than three years ago. Hence, fresh police verification will be required in your case.

Fresh police verification would take place if you apply for reissue of passport after expiry of old passport more than three years ago.

I have recently got my passport renewed. Incidently in my previous passport my father's name was misspelled 'Hasan' was written as 'Hasam' which I failed to notice earlier. Now in the renewed passport also the name has been similarly misspelled. What I should do for correction? All documents submitted by me had correct name everywhere.

If you find any mistake/error in the particulars printed in the passport booklet as per the application form submitted, please return the passport for necessary rectification. Any additional fees required to be paid would depend solely on Assistant Passport Officer (APO)/Passport Issuing Authority (PIA) decision. If there is a misrepresentation of facts, then penalty could also be imposed.

However, applicants are requested to apply online which will ensure that the passports are delivered without any typographical errors since applicants have themselves fed the data.

No, you cannot apply for a 60 pages passport booklet for your 12-months old child. Only 36 pages passport booklet are issued to minors.

I have got appointment on the basis of tatkal but I am not able to submit verification certificate from authorized person. Can I switch over to normal against tatkal and submit documents required for normal one?
