Essential qualification and experience:
(i) Should not be more than 30 years of age.
Provided that the age limit may be relaxed by 5 years in favour of a candidate who is in service of the Gujarat Maritime Board/Government of Gujarat, in accordance with the provisions of Gujarat Civil Services Classification & Recruitment (General) Rules, 1967 as amended from time to time.
(ii) Candidate selected as engineer trainees and have successfully completed probation in the field of safety.
OR
Possess a diploma in any branch of Engineering /Technology or a BSc degree in Physics or Chemistry and has a practical experience of working in any factories in a supervisory capacity for a period of not less than three years.

b. 10 years service as Engineer Officer of which one year must have been in the capacity of Chief Engineer on a foreign going ship.
OR
c. 6 years service at sea of which one year must have been as Chief Engineer or Second Engineer.
