13.Research achievement :
- Therapeutic potential of plants having antioxidant potential properties in reducing free radical induced tissue injury leading to better clinical recovery. In the present study ameliorative potential of psidium.guajava fruit was studied with respect to the oxidative stress indices and tissue arsenic burden. Significant reduction in tissue arsenic burden and oxidative stress normalization was observed in treated groups as compared to control animals.
- Arsenic intoxication induced a high degree of lipid peroxidation in the brain tissue of the experimental rats due to the susceptibility of the brain tissue toward oxidative damage. The level of blood LPO was increased and decreased glutathione and CAT and SOD activity was observed in arsenic exposed animals. Co treatment with different doses of Ocimum sanctum HAEO50, HAEO100 and HAEO200 prevented the arsenic induced alteration in oxidative stress parameters in erythrocyte. Ocimum sanctum leaves extract was found effective in restoration of arsenic induced alterations in lipid profile, erythrocyte and brain tissue induced oxidative stress, cell architecture and trace mineral status in the subjects of experimental study. The overall preventive role of HAEO is probably due to its free radical scavenging properties, which diminish the oxidative impact of the arsenic burden in the brain cells.
