MSc Project Work:
Title: Assessment of causes of stress in geriatric population of Mumbai.

Procedure:A questionnaire based survey was conducted in different places all over Mumbai. The main places targeted were Jogger’s parks, temples, and parks. A questionnaire was prepared with the help of extensive study of the past literature available on the internet and books. The survey was conducted over a period of two to three months. Elderly people who participated in the study were explained about the study and its purpose. Good compliance was observed in case of male participants as compared to female participants.

Conclusion: It was found that health related problems were the largest causes of stress in geriatric population of Mumbai. But when emotional problems like family disputes and loneliness are taken together, they form the biggest cause of stress among the elderly population of Mumbai. Financial problems were found to be the second biggest cause of stress among the elderly population of Mumbai.

About the Project work:
Leukemia is a cancer of the blood or bone marrow and is characterized by an abnormal proliferation of blood cells, usually white blood cells (leukocytes). The antitumour effect of guinea pig serum was demonstrated in 1953, and was shown in 1961 to result from the enzyme Asparaginase. Asparaginase is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of Asparagine to aspartic acid. It acts by deaminating extracellular L- Asparaginase, an amino acid that appears to be essential for protein synthesis by some tumour cells lacking adequate levels of asparagine synthetase. The present study was undertaken to screen the selected bacterial isolate for L-Asparaginase production by Rapid Plate Assay method (Gulati et al 1997).Two bacterial species of E. coli CM 600 and JM 5a were grown on Modified Czapeck Dox medium which was prepared by adding L-asparagine and phenol red (as pH indicator). Both the bacterial population were found to be good producer of L-Asparaginase, which is indicated by change in colour of medium to pink.
