- Determination of Mechanical Properties of Service Exposed Steels by Using Miniature Specimen and Finite Element Method”

Abstract:
Miniature specimen technique provides the way of obtaining mechanical properties of the components and structures while consuming a lesser amount of materials that is required for a standard/full sized conventional specimen. One very important material property is Fracture toughness, which determines the limit of catastrophic failure. To determine Fracture toughness, standard specimen is required which consumes a significant amount of material especially in case of nuclear applications and in-service components (Turbines, Engines, and Pressure Vessels). In the present study an effort is made to develop an empirical relation between Fracture toughness and Equivalent fracture strain which is obtained through miniature specimen on small punch test technique experiment on a sample consuming very less amount of material, together with Finite Element Analysis and Fracture Mechanics Analysis.

- Studies on Exhaust Emissions from Copper Coated Spark Ignition Engine with Catalytic Converter run with Methanol Blended Gasoline”
Under the guidance of Dr.M.V.S.Murali Krishna, C.B.I.T
Abstract:
My project related to the investigations that are carried out on the control of CO and UBHC in the exhaust of catalytic coated, variable compression ratio, methanol blended gasoline (20% methanol and 80% petrol) run spark ignition engine with catalytic converter. Copper of thickness 0.5mm is coated using plasma spray technique over the crown of the piston and inside portion of the cylinder head of combustion chamber of conventional SI engine. Sponge iron is used as catalyst in the converter. The influence of the parameters /conditions such as void ratio, air-fuel ration and injection of air, temperature of air ,mass of catalyst, speed and load of the engine on the exhaust emissions from a catalytic coated SI engine are studied and compared with those of conventional SI engine with pure gasoline operation.

Catalytic coated engine reduced the exhaust emissions considerably at different conditions when compared with conventional engine. The reduction is more pronounced with methanol blended gasoline operation.
Minor Project:
Contact stress & Deflection Analysis of Wheel & Track system of DSN Antenna (Ansys)
Description:
- Contact stress analysis has been done for DSN antenna consisting of Wheel &Track.
- Higher order tetrahedral elements were considered for modeling the domain.
- A comparison was done between FE Analysis and Analytical method.
