Jan.2011 –May.2011 Team Member ARDC, HAL
Software : CATIA V5 R19, ENOVIA VPM
Client ARDC, HAL, BANGALORE
Project Summary and Responsibilities :
Description : Fuselage structure needs quite a large number of doors windows or covers, which implies cut-outs in the skin of fuselage. These cut-outs result in loss of material in bending and shear and uneven distribution of stress in the vicinity of cut-outs. To compensate these, reinforcements are provided around the cut-out and to some areas beyond. The reinforcements are in the form of doublers skins, stiffeners or both. Uneven stress distribution can result in stress concentration which coupled with fluctuating stress can contribute to fatigue failure. Large covers and doors are required to be stiff to retain shape and hence have to be suitably stiffened. Honeycomb sandwich construction is sometimes used to provide sufficient stiffness.

Mtech Project Details
Project Name : “Fluid Flow and Solidification Analysis of Front Axle Housing
Component and Designing the Gating System for Defect Free Casting”
Description : The objective of the project was to produce defect free casting and control the rejection of an existing casted Front Axle housing part by Casting Simulation. The method involves modifying the sprue; runner, In-gate and where to employ risers design through modulus calculation. Methodology covers detection of air entrapment, temperature distribution, and solidification pattern and shrinkage porosity in the casting by simulation and there by riser has been provided in that region. Type of gating system and need of risers and there location is modified, by conducting number of trials in the simulation.
After carrying out number of simulation iterations, it is concluded that Casted part produced with no defects by using risers. Hence, the scopes of simulation software were clearly understood.
