    Dissertation Work
Petrological studies of Granulite from Chilka, Eastern Ghats Belt, India
A segment of high grade rock has been studied at the N-E part of Chilka, Orissa in Eastern Ghat Belt(EGB). The study area falls in the toposheet no within 85015’E to 85045’E and 19045’N to 20015’N. According to Rickers et.al. (2001), the area falls in the Domain 3 with respect to their classification of EGB.
A suite of granulite facies rock exposed in the study area, viz. Aluminous granulite, Charnokite-Enderbite, Mafic granulite, Leptynite, Khandalite. The litho units are characterized by a dominant Gneissic foliation designated as S2.The rock suffered 4 stages of deformation exhibiting different superposed fold structures in the microscopic to large scale dimension.
Among the rock types, the aluminous granulites are most important to decipher the detail metamorphic evolution. The rocks are exposed in several localities like Kuhuri, Basantamunlia as conformable bodies within host Gnessic rocks. Minerologically the rock contains corderite-garnet-spinel-orthopyroxene-Sapphirine-Quartz-K-feldspar-biotite-Plagioclase-Rutile. A strong decompression stage is evident from Garnet breakdown texture producing symplectitic Spinel-Orthopyroxene-Sapphirine. Psuedosection analysis has been carried out to elastrate the detail of metamorphic evolution from the bulk chemical composition.
