Online Applications are invited upto 31st January 2018 for the one post of Scientist – B (Bio-Statistics / Statistics) at National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research, Bengaluru.
Name of the Post : Scientist - B (Biostatistics / Statistics)
No. of Vacancies : 1 Post
Essential Qualifications : First Class Master’s Degree in Bio- Statistics / Statistics (M.Sc.) from a recognized University OR Second Class Master’s degree in Biostatistics + Ph.D. degree in Biostatistics from a recognized University.
Desirable :
(i) Doctorate in Bio-Statistics / Statistics from a recognized University.
(ii) Additional Postdoctoral research / teaching experience in Bio-Statistics in recognized institute(s)
(iii) Knowledge of Computer Applications or Business Intelligence tools/ Data Management.
(iv) Two years R & D in health research / Teaching experience in Bio-Statistics after obtaining essential qualification.
Job Description :
(i) To work under the guidance of senior scientists and assist other scientists in data analysis using modern medical statistical tools, and to strengthen on-going research programmes in the area of expanding noncommunicable disease research activities.
(ii) Work with Statistical / epidemiological packages like SPSS / SAS or STATA and EPIINFO / Open epi etc.
(iii) Conduct training programmes for statisticians and non-statisticians on basic and advanced statistical methods.
(iv) Provide guidance to colleagues and collaborators on study design, sampling, analysis and interpretation of study findings and write scientific reports.
(iv) Plan, design and conduct appropriate research programs.
Application fee:
i. Demand Draft of Rs.500/- (Rupees five Hundred only) payable in favour of “The Director, NCDIR, Bengaluru” should be enclosed alongwith application and should reach to this office on or before closing date.
The SC/ST/Women/physically handicapped candidates (PH) are exempted from the application fee. All other / ICMR employees are not exempted from the payment of application fee.
ii. On the over leaf of demand Draft, the candidate must mention his/her name and post applied for.
iii. Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
iv. Any other mode of payment viz. cash, money order and cheque will not be accepted.

Selection Procedure:
Written examination of the eligible candidates will be taken, candidates will be called for personal discussion/ interview on merit, on the basis of marks obtained in the written examination. The final selection will be as per criteria adopted by ICMR and decision of the Director General, ICMR will be final in this regards
Written Test:
The written test would be of 100 marks consisting of 100 objective/ MCQ type questions of one mark each for the correct answer.
The final score will be computed for a maximum of 40 marks based on the marks obtained in the written test of 100 marks. For each wrong answer 0.25 marks will be deducted. Out of 100 questions, 90 questions will be objective/ MCQ type and 10 objective/ MCQ for analytical skills.
a. Level of questions will be M. Sc level.
b. Questions will cover all the areas mentioned below:-
1. Biostatistics
2. Computing skills
3. General Scientific knowledge
4. Current Affairs including developments in Biomedical Sciences
5. Common sense
6. Institute specific areas
7. Post specific areas
8. Fundamental knowledge
9. Subject specific knowledge
General Instructions:
i. Ph. D degree in Bio-Statistics / Statistics shall be treated equivalent to three years’ experience. Candidates with Ph.D. degree will be preferred for direct recruitment.
ii. Candidates called for personal discussion will be paid a 2nd Class rail fare by the shortest route, subject to production of documents alongwith proof of travel. Local transportation charges shall however be borne by the candidates themselves.
iii. The post is with all India transfer liability under the Council.
iv. The envelope containing applications should be superscribed – Application for the post of ‘Scientist B (Bio-Statistics / Statistics)’
v. OBC candidates are directed to submit the caste certificate in prescribed format (Appendix) issued as per Government of India instruction by the competent Authority for appointment to posts under Government of India, which shall not be more than oneyear- old from the date of publication of this advertisement.
vi. Unsigned/incomplete applications or applications without supportive evidence, without application fee (in the form of Demand Draft), applications received late, shall be summarily rejected.
vii. NCDIR, Bengaluru will not be responsible for any postal delay/wrong delivery.
viii. Since it is not possible to call all the eligible candidates for the written test, the applications fulfilling essential qualification and experience will be shortlisted. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for written test and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
ix. Date of written test / personal discussion will be communicated to the eligible candidates through call letters only and no enquiry
in this regard will be entertained.
x. No TA/DA will be admissible to attend the written test.
xi. Canvassing by or on behalf of the candidates or to bring political or other outside influence with regard to selection / recruitment shall be treated as disqualification
