CURRENT ASSIGNMENT :

TEACHING AND RESEARCH EXPERIENCE : Four years
FIELD OF RESEARCH WORK : Plant Biotechnology, Toxicology,

RESEARCH WORK DONE DURING M.Tech. :
The study was designed to observe the effect of graded concentration of Fe3+ on protein content, carbohydrate content and chl-a content in Anabaena cylindrica and Spirulina platensis. Growth of Anabaena cylindrica cells increased with Fe3+ concentration in the medium and attained its maximum level in 25µM Fe3+ added cells. It was found that growth of Spirulina platensis was maximum to be 75 µM Fe3+ concentrations. In contrast, control incubated cells which is normally used for normal culturing of A. cylindrica and S. platensis cells supported less growth as compared to 25µM Fe3+ and 75 µM Fe3+ added cells. Fe3+ starved cells initially showed a poor growth but later on it showed significant growth at 6th day. It was suggested that formation of iron bearing protein i.e., siderophores might have taken 3-4 day and started the transport of iron (present in the medium in very less amount), after that Fe3+ supplemented and the starved cells showed significant growth. Similar results on the iron induced growth is also reported in Anabaena species. In Spirulina platensis Unknown protein was appeared in the rang of 14 KDa and 23 KDa. Protein in the range of 23 KDa probably codes for the chloroplast DNA. one another unknown protein in rang of 50 KDa was found to appear in the cells treated with 75 µM and 100 µM. Whereas one another protein was appeared in 100 µM iron conc. which was degraded in 200 µM. Agarose gel electrophoresis showed no tangible effect on genome of both species at different iron concentration.
