Emeritus Professor Distinguished Practicing Engineer Fellowship :
(I) Objectives :
(a) The Emeritus Professor (Distinguished Practicing Engineer) Fellowship intends to utilize the expertise of highly qualified and experienced superannuated Engineers who have made undoubtable, unchallengeable, unparalleled and exceptional contribution to the society in their respective fields in any discipline in engineering for the benefit of students/faculty of host institutes & of institutes located in the adjoining areas.
(II) Eligibility :
(a) The awardee must be highly qualified superannuated engineer preferably with a doctoral degree.
(b) The awardee should be an acknowledged leader (expert) in that particular field of specialization who had been actively engaged in research and development in the field of engineering
(c ) The awardee should have contributed to the development of society by his excellent field work in engineering in a big way.
(III) Tenure :
(a) The Fellowship is tenable for a period of three years or the age of 75 years of Emeritus Professor (Distinguished Practicing Engineer) , whichever is earlier, extendable to a person till 80 years with fitness certificate from AICTE doctor
(b) On the recommendation of the Expert Committee, AICTE may extend the period of the Fellowship by one year. This extension will be given in highly deserving cases on the basis of a review and specific recommendations made by Expert Committee. Proposal for the extension of the period of the Fellowship should be submitted in the prescribed format, at least six months in advance of the expiry of the tenure of the fellow.
(IV) Fellowship Grant :
(a) The Fellowship consist of (i) honorarium of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees Ten thousand per day) for maximum five days for full day interaction with the Faculty/ Students of Host and nearby located institutions in a single trip.
(ii) Actual expenses on travel, lodging & boarding and
(iii) the honorarium will be over and above any superannuation benefits, the Emeritus Engineers may be in receipts of.
(V) Procedure for Application :
(a) The proposals for the Emeritus Professor (Distinguished Practicing Engineer) Fellowship will be invited by nomination only. The nominated Emeritus Engineers will be requested to forward their C.V. in the prescribed proforma to Research, Institutional & Faculty Development (RIFD) Bureau of AICTE.
(b) The important and significant consideration governing the selection of an Emeritus Fellow will be the level and standing of contributions made by the candidate in the concerned field of specializations, honors and awards received especially during the last five years prior to the applicant’s retirement.
(VI) Processing Methodology :
(a) The proposals for the Emeritus Professor (Distinguished Practicing Engineer) Fellowship will be assessed by a three member Expert Committee comprising of Directors of IITs and/or an engineer not below the rank of Director General (Works/CSIR) as and when the nomination is received.
(VII) Operation of the Scheme :
(a) The Proposals complete in all respect can be sent throughout the year on the following address: The Advisor(RIFD), AICTE, Nelson Mandela Marg, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi -110070
(b ) Incomplete application shall not be entertained.
(c) The candidates for the Emeritus Professor (Distinguished Practicing Engineer) Fellowship and the host institution are intimated immediately after the approval of the competent authority of the Council. The quantum of the grant approved in the form of honorarium to the fellow will be communicated through an offer letter along with the terms and conditions governing the scheme.
(VIII) Operation of Funds :
(a) AICTE funds are placed at the disposal and control of the host institution, which is entrusted with the accountability of grants.
(b) The quantum of financial assistance, sanctioned with regard to each Fellowship approved, is mentioned in the sanction letter as per norms stated at IV above under the caption ‘Fellowship Grant’. Grants are released to the host institute in one/single installment.
(c) Rs. 20,000/- on account of contingency grant will be released on receipt of the Statement of Expenditure and Utilization Certificate as stated below :
** The Statement of Expenditure and Utilization Certificate should be certified by the Accounts Officer and countersigned by the Finance Officer/ Registrar/ Administrator of the University / Institution and submitted to AICTE within one month of completion of the Lecturers delivered by the Emeritus Engineers in the host institution.
** An Audited Statement of Expenditure and Utilization Certificate duly certified by the statutory audit authority of the Institution should be sent in due course.
