a) Define Political Science. Give an outline of different approaches to the study of Political Science.
b) Discuss the background of the emergence of the theory of welfare state in regard to the functions of the state. Attempt an evaluation of it.
c) What do you mean by 'Historical Materialism' ? Analyse the basic postulates of the materialist interpretation of history.
d) What is meant by ' Bureaucracy' ? Write an essay on the role of bureaucracy in modern state.

a) Discuss the similarities and differences among the formulations of Hobbes, Locke and Rousseau in their depiction of 'Contract theory' and 'state of nature'.
b) Narrate the basic postulates of dialectical materialism.
