Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship - 2014-15 :
The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Higher Education, Government of India has introduced Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students during XI Five Year Plan. Directorate of Collegiate Education, Tamil Nadu is the implementing agency in the State of Tamil Nadu.

Objective: This scheme is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from low income families to meet a part of their day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the results of Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary (Plus Two) Examinations. Based on selection the scholarship would be awarded to the beneficiaries pursuing higher education in various disciplines like Engineering, Medical, Law, Arts, Science, Commerce etc.

Rate of Scholarships: The scholarship will be given @ Rs.10,000/- per year at Under graduation level for first three years of College and University courses and @ Rs.20,000/- per year at Post graduation level in the same stream. Students pursuing professional courses would get Rs.20,000/- per year in the 4th & 5th year. The maximum duration of scholarship is for 5 year only.

Payment of Scholarship: Scholarship will be paid to the selected students directly by the Central Government into a Bank Account opened by them.

Eligibility :
Students who are above 80th percentile of successful candidates in the class XII examination of the State of Tamil Nadu.
The scholarship would be available to those students who belong to non-creamy layer. At present, the income-ceiling is Rs. 6.00 lakhs per annum.
Students who are pursuing regular courses only (not correspondence / distance mode / charted accountant / company secretaryship etc) from recognized educational institutions.
Students not availing any other scholarship would be eligible for consideration under this Scheme.
This is applicable to all categories of students both 'general' and 'reserved'.
The scholarship under this scheme is renewable from year to year up to Post Graduate level in the same stream.
For all professional courses, scholarship will be renewed till the graduation level of that course.
For all other courses the scholarship would be renewed up to a maximum of five years.
The renewal will depend on promotion to the next class provided the scholar secures 60% or more marks or equivalent Grade Point Average in aggregate for the two preceding semesters or of the annual examination which determines his / her promotion to the next class.
It will also be subject to discipline and maintenance of attendance of at least 75% by the scholar. Complaints against the scholars regarding indiscipline including any complaints of having indulged in ragging would lead to forfeiture of scholarship.
The decision of MHRD, New Delhi will be final and binding in all such matters.
Scholarship once cancelled will not be revived under any circumstances.

General guidelines in filling up the CSSS – 2014 application form :
1. Candidate must ensure that no item is wrongly filled. The information furnished therein would be used for deciding the eligibility and suitability of the candidates
2. Applications not filled correctly, completely are liable to be rejected and the onus of such rejection would be on the candidate himself / herself. The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Higher Education will not entertain any claim after such rejection
3. Copies of the certificates should be attached in support of information given in the form wherever necessary
4. Fill in the form in English using Capital letters. Forms must be filled in applicant's own handwriting
5. Use only BLACK or BLUE ink to fill up the form.
6. Square boxes provided in the forms are only for writing the alphabets in capitals or numbers. Only one alphabet or number should be written in one box. Wherever codes are given, fill in the boxes with the appropriate codes
7. Overwriting, striking off or erasing in any of the forms may lead to rejection and should be avoided. Any discrepancy in the statement and/or submission of incomplete forms will lead to rejection of application/cancellation of admission
8. Keep a photocopy of the filled application for future reference
9. Those students who have passed Class - XII Exam prior to 2014 are not eligible to apply
10. Only application forms published in the official websites will be accepted. Forms of previous year or other website printouts will be rejected
11. Mere submission of the application form/fulfilling the eligibility criteria will not entitle the applicant for the award of Scholarship. Scholarships will be distributed among various streams and various categories on merit as per criteria advised by the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India
12. Applicant is entitled to receive only one scholarship at a time. If the applicant is in receipt of any scholarship from any other scheme he/she has to refund that scholarship, failing which action will be taken as per rules
13. Application received after due date shall be summarily rejected
14. Applicants are not generally encouraged to have personal communication in this regard. It is advised to send any queries either by post or email (tndceoffice@gmail.com) clearly indicating the issues
