Name of the Course : M.Sc. Computational Biology
Duration : Two years, Four Semesters (Under Credit & Semester System)

About the course: M.Sc., Computational Biology is an interdisciplinary program involving various areas in Biology, Biotechnology, Computational Methods, Mathematical Methods and Chemistry. With the true spirit of interdisciplinary program, this course is offered with the involvement and collective efforts from multiple Schools of Madurai Kamaraj University with the very experienced faculty heavily engaged in cutting edge research investigations in various aspects of computational biology.

Eligibility: Bachelor's degree in any relevant area of Life Sciences/ Zoology / Botany / Microbiology / Biochemistry / Biotechnology / Mathematics / Physical Science / Chemical Science / Computer Science / BE / B.Tech / M.B.B.S. with evidence of Maths at +2 level with minimum of 55% of marks.

Unique Features of this Course at Madurai Kamaraj University :
Bioinformatics Centre, training laboratories, equipment facility established with the support of DBT, UGC, DST supported programs at Madurai Kamaraj University are the benefit for the M.Sc students. This course is designed as lab training and research oriented course and students will get extensive hands on training in various aspects of Computational Biology including Structural Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Functional Genomics and Proteomics.

MKU has world class research facility and infrastructure which is the outcome of few hundreds of research projects and programs from Biotechnology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Information Technology. There are more than 25 ongoing research projects involving different aspects of computational biology and about a hundred publications from MKU in the last few years are the special features at MKU. The selected students would get the benefit of getting trained in the facility and from the experts. Thrust areas that students can select and specialized in the final semester through extensive research projects are;
** Handling Genome Sequences, Structural Genomics, Computational Genomics, Integrative Functional Genomics
** Systems Biology, Drug Design & Development, Structural Biology, Data mining, Bioinformatics Tool Development
Student project is designed for each student to come with a research publication or a computational biology tool. This would make the students very competitive in their selected area.

Selection mode : Selection will be based on B.Sc mark aggregate / CGPA in III & IV
No. of Seats : 12 (Reservation as per University norms)
Fee Structure : Rs. 12,085/- per year

Application fee : A registration fee of Rs. 200/- (No fee for SC/ST candidates and differently abled persons) has been prescribed. The Registration Fee in the form of DD / University Chalan should be attached with the application form.

iii) M.B.B.S./ with evidence of Maths at +2 level
