M.TECH THESIS PROJECT
WATERFLOODING PROCESS IN FRACTURE RESERVOIR (One Year Duration)
Description : Waterflooding refers to the method in oil industry where water is injected back into the reservoir, usually to increase pressure and thereby stimulate production. Water injection wells can be used for both onshore and offshore, to increase oil recovery from an existing reservoir. Water is injected to support pressure of the reservoir and to sweep or displace oil from the reservoir, and push it towards a well. Normally only 10 to 20% of the oil in a reservoir can be extracted by primary recovery, but water injection increases that percentage (known as the recovery factor) and maintains the production rate of a reservoir over a longer period of time. The main aim of thesis work is to simulate reservoir model with different flood patterns, in which we would like to see the ultimate recovery and cumulative oil production of various flood patterns using CMG® Simulator. CMG simulator having three module i.e. STAR , IMEX, GEM . in which Imex is used in this thesis . IMEX is black oil simulator. The model is hypothetical and some of the data are assumed. The reservoir model created has been exploited for 4 years .The flood pattern used in the model are as follows regular 5-spot , inverted 5-spot , direct line and one of the model is created for primary recovery , in which only one well is situated at the centre.
Input parameter for the simulation are rock and fluid properties such as porosity, peremeability, viscosity etc. The output results are analyzed and comparative studies are carried out for different conditions. It has been seen that more cumulative oil can be recovered in case of fracture reservoir rather than non fracture and also recovery factor of primary recovery is less than that of secondary recovery. Output results of simulation model shows that horizontal injection well produces more oil than that of vertical injection well.
