ABOUT THE INSTITUTE :
National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur is one of the National Importance Institutions for Technical Education in India. This was formerly known as Regional Institute of Technology Jamshedpur. National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur is an Institution of National Importance set up by an Act of Parliament (Act 29 of 2007) namely, the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007, which received the assent of the President of India on the 5th June, 2007. The provision of the Act has come into force with effect from 15th August, 2007 as per Notification S.O.1384 (E) dated 9th August, 2007 of the MHRD (Department of Higher Education), New Delhi. As per the provision of the said Act, this Institution runs on non profitable basis. NIT Jamshedpur offers academic programmes: B. Tech. (Hons.), M. Tech., MCA and Ph.D. in the various disciplines. 1. Full-Time Research Scholar (FRS) :
Student under this category is entitled to fellowship (financial support) from the Institute as per the MHRD norms

2. Part-Time Research Scholar (PRS) :
Student under this category is not entitled to any fellowship (financial support) from the Institute
This category is open to:
i) the people working in National research laboratories / R&D organizations having MOU with NIT Jamshedpur
ii) the people working in PSU’s / Industries having MOU with NIT Jamshedpur
iii) the Institute Faculty at NIT Jamshedpur on regular or contract basis

Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria:
1 Civil Engineering :
For Full-time Research Scholar (FRS) : Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or in appropriate discipline with a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 65% marks from a recognized Institute or University (Minimum 5.5 CGPA or 55% marks for SC/ST candidates)
Only those candidates will be considered for Ph.D. programme :
i) whose admission to M.Tech /M.S/ME Programme was through GATE (OR)
ii) who holds M.Tech/ME Degree and a valid GATE score (i.e., those qualified in GATE 2013 or 2014) (OR)
iii) who holds B.Tech Degree in appropriate discipline with a valid GATE score (i.e., those qualified in GATE 2013 or 2014)

2 Computer Applications :
For Full-time Research Scholar (FRS) : MCA / M.Tech Degree in appropriate discipline with a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 65% marks from a recognized Institute or University (Minimum 5.5 CGPA or 55% marks for SC/ST candidates)
Only those candidates will be considered for Ph.D. programme :
i) whose admission to MCA Programme was through NIMCET (OR)
ii) whose admission to M. Tech/ME Programme was through GATE (OR)
iii) who holds M.Tech Degree in appropriate discipline with a valid GATE score (i.e., those qualified in GATE 2013 or 2014)

3 Electrical and Electronics Engineering :
For Full-time Research Scholar (FRS) : Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering/ Electronics and Communication Engineering / Instrumentation or in appropriate discipline with a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 65% marks from a recognized Institute or University (Minimum 5.5 CGPA or 55% marks for SC/ST candidates)
Only those candidates will be considered for Ph.D. Programme :
i) whose admission to M.Tech /M.S/ME Programmes was through GATE (OR)
ii) who holds M.Tech/ME Degree and a valid GATE score (i.e., those qualified in GATE 2013 or 2014) (OR)
iii) who holds B.Tech Degree in appropriate discipline with a valid GATE score (i.e., those qualified in GATE 2013 or 2014)

4 Electronics and Communication Engineering :
For Full-time Research Scholar (FRS) : Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering / Electrical and Electronics Engineering / Computer Science and Engineering or in appropriate discipline with a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 65% marks from a recognized Institute or University (Minimum 5.5 CGPA or 55% marks for SC/ST candidates)
Only those candidates will be considered for Ph.D. Programme :
i) whose admission to M. Tech /M.S/ME Programme was through GATE (OR)
ii) who holds M.Tech/ME Degree and a valid GATE score (i.e., those qualified in GATE 2013 or 2014) (OR)
iii) who holds B.Tech Degree in appropriate discipline with a valid GATE Score (i.e., those qualified in GATE 2013 or 2014)

5 Manufacturing Engineering :
For Full-time Research Scholar (FRS) : Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Manufacturing/ Mechanical / Production Engineering or in appropriate discipline with a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 65% marks from recognized Institute or University (Minimum 5.5 CGPA or 55% marks for SC/ST candidates)
Only those candidates will be considered for Ph.D. Programme :
i) whose admission to M. Tech /MS/ME Programme was through GATE (OR)
ii) who holds M.Tech/ME Degree and a valid GATE score (i.e., those qualified in GATE 2013 or 2014) (OR)
iii) who holds B.Tech Degree in appropriate discipline with a valid GATE Score (i.e., those qualified in GATE 2013 or 2014)

Selection Procedure : The selection procedure for admission to Ph.D. Programme is based on consistently good academic record throughout and interview performance. Reservations for SC/ST/OBC/PWD are applicable as per GOI norms.
