- Presently working as All India Head-Programmes with Concern India Foundation. Main work involves monitoring and evaluation of programmes, disbursals of funds and guiding the programme team of all the 7 branches across India.
- Experience of working as a Consultant with organizations working with women and children. During this period worked in setting up a gender resource centre in the city of Mumbai. Incorporated training of teachers on the issue of child sexual abuse, networked with teachers, Community Development Officers, Municipal authorities and partnered with NGOs of imparting the training.
- Worked as a Lecturer for 15 years with College of Social Work, Nirmala Niketan a leading A+ Accredited institution in Mumbai. Taught undergraduate and post graduate students, supervision and curriculum development. Liaison and trained police, government officials, women, youth and NGOs. I was selected for two international exchange programmes with the University of Policy Studies, Bristol, UK and Stockholm University, Sweden. Both these exchange programmes enabled me to understand the social welfare approaches adopted for the development of women and children especially. Appointed as a Director of women’s guidance cell, a project basically worked in empowering women and families.
- Experience of working as a senior social worker for 5 years to address women and girl child issues wherein handled cases of atrocities on women/girl child, legal intervention and their rehabilitation. Promoted education of women, girl child through life skill education, prepared training manuals on soft skills and legal rights.
Career Profile:
Feb onwards: Working as a freelance development consultant mainly involved in conducting training for various stakeholders on soft skills such as basics of counseling, communication skills, and leadership and on various gender issues.
Dec-Feb 2010: As a Consultant with ILFS/ETS, I initiated tools for Baseline Survey, guidelines for Focus Group Discussions with various stakeholders to assess the socio-economic and educational status of people at Jharkand- Ranchi and Solapur –Pune belt. Mobilised human resources and local partners in these belts for research work and for planning need based intervention in the area of Education to Employability. I mobilized local government agencies and NGOs to initiate community development work.
June- Sept 2009: As a Consultant with Childline India Foundation launched training Municipal school authorities on Child Sexual Abuse (CSA), developed training modules and built capacities of teachers, parents, police personnel and children on CSA. My work entailed planning the entire campaign, mobilizing resources for the same, conducting workshops and collaborating with various stakeholders. I have developed a training manual on CSA for social workers working with children. I launched the whole concept of child sexual abuse in the school curriculum.
Dec 2008- April 2009: I worked as a consultant on project basis and this enabled me to solely plan the setting up of Gender Resource Centre a project of Bombay Municipal Corporation and Akshara, Women’s Resource Centre in Mumbai. My work involved promoting the concept of “Safe City’ and “Gender Friendly City”, designing training modules for stake holders especially on the issue of safe city, bare foot counselor training programme. I mapped community resources for women, children and senior citizens in G and F ward in Mumbai city. Publicising 103 help line for women, children and senior citizens and training of police personnel’s in charge of helpline on basics of counselling, making effective referrals and skills of networking with like- minded professionals.
June1995 to Nov 2008: As a Lecturer with Nirmala Niketan along with teaching core subjects in social work, I was also involved in supervision of students, curriculum development, Advocacy around human right issues such as laws dealing with violence against women, conducted capacity building programmes for women, collaborated with NGOs, foreign Universities such as University of Bristol, UK and University of Stockholm, Sweden to work on Domestic violence and other social work issues. I have also extensively trained women’s Self Help Groups on health and gender empowerment issues. I was involved in organizing and conducting training of counselors, police around Maharashtra on women and child rights. I was also appointed as a Director of Sakhya, women’s guidance cell. This enabled me to take up leadership in planning, conducting, evaluating programmes, training and appraisal of staff and preparation of reports and documentation materials.
June 1990- June 1995: Senior Social Worker, Sakhya, Women’s Guidance Cell. My work ranged from providing services such as counseling, legal aid and rehabilitation of women and children. I partnered with NGOs, police and health care professionals to promote women’s empowerment. I also took leadership in preparing annual reports and documentation materials.
Key accomplishments:
- Appointed Director of college project Sakhya, Women’s Guidance Cell from 1996 to 2000. As a Director, I supervised a team of social workers, staff recruitment and appraisal, leadership in preparing project reports, raising funds and collaborated with various stakeholders.
- In 1996, was appointed by the High court as one of the Counselors to counsel and rehabilitate rescued girls. This work enabled me to coordinate with some faith based organizations, residential homes for girls and women’s organizations.
- NGO member of Reserve Bank committee to prevent sexual harassment at work place.
- Coordinator of research study to “Evaluate schemes implemented for Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe women in the eighth plan period in a few Districts in Maharashtra State, India”.
- Faculty selected for international exchange programme with Stockholm University, Sweden, Social Work department in 2005. I delivered lectures to the Social Work educators, supervisors and students on Indian Social Welfare system, social problems.
- I was one of the faculty members selected for a four year British Council Higher Education Link Programme with the School for Policy Studies, Domestic Violence Research Group, University of Bristol, UK. I worked on the issue of management of domestic violence.
- Through the Council for the International Fellowship Programme, India, in 1997, was sent on an exchange programme to Norway to study the Norwegian Social Welfare system.
