Copyeditors :
Exeter Premedia Services is looking for copyeditors with a meticulous approach to their work and an eye for detail, the ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines and a love of and feel for the English language. The ideal candidate should have an inquisitive mind and good concentration – to focus on texts that may be lengthy or dull, be able to judge when to apply house style and when not to, use a tactful approach when dealing with authors and have the ability to retain the author's voice after editing.
Roles and Responsibilities include :
** Performing quality control of copyediting work done by other copyeditors
** Providing feedback to other copyeditors based on quality control checks
** Copyediting manuscripts based on requirements as and when the need arises
** Proofreading typeset pages to pick up any copyediting or typographical artefacts that remain in the typeset version
** Evaluating book and journal manuscripts to estimate the level – light (editing for style/consistency and basic grammar), medium (thorough reading of the text for sense, style and structure) or heavy (detailed language work to ensure that the meaning and structure of the text is clear) – of copyediting that is appropriate for the manuscript
** Preparing style sheets for copyediting book or journal projects
** Training and mentoring new recruits on all aspects pertaining to copyediting
** Training and mentoring other employees (project leaders, quality controllers) on performing copyediting quality control checks
Required Skills :
** 3+ years experience in copyediting scientific, technical and medical books and journals
** Sound knowledge of all aspects of copyediting – technical editing (type coding manuscript elements; reference editing and validation; treatment of numbers and units; style, spelling and hyphenation consistency checks) and language editing
** Proven ability to copyedit manuscripts at a level (light, medium or heavy) that is appropriate for the content
** Sound decision making skills in terms of all aspects pertaining to copyediting
** Strong verbal and written communication skills
Senior copyeditors:
** proven ability to manage a team of copyeditors and/or freelancers
** Bachelors or Masters Degree in any discipline
** Postgraduates preferred

Proofreaders :
Graduates/post-graduates in Science with 2 or more years of experience in proofreading STM/HSS content for books and journals. In addition to having an eye for detail, candidates should also have good written and presentation skills. Fresh graduates will be considered for the post of trainees.

Technical Editor-Trainee :
Postgraduates/graduates with a background in Science/Humanities and excellent English language skills would be required to copyedit book/journal manuscripts for style and technical aspects based on guidelines. Familiarity with scientific, specifically medical/biomedical, terminology will be an added advantage. Proficient in use of Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to learn quickly and should have an eye for detail. English medium schooling is a must.
