Subject: XIII CBSE Heritage Education and Heritage India Quiz 2013.

India is endowed with a vast and ancient cultural heritage that has shaped the lives and value systems of the people. CBSE recognises that Heritage is more than a record of the past - it is an integral part of the Indian identity today and for the future. We, as a nation, should also recognize that India’s cultural heritage along with her natural resources, are equally in danger of being destroyed in the name of economic development and modernization.

With the recognition of cultural heritage a shared legacy of the community, we move away from merely creating an inventory of heritage sites, to an interlinked approach towards heritage conservation and its management. To start with, it is important for young learners to know about India’s heritage in order to understand better, the beliefs, values, history and socio-cultural context of the country.

The CBSE Heritage India Quiz, initiated in 2001, is an inter-school quiz competition which has been conceptualized by the Board to raise awareness and promote greater understanding in the student community about the cultural diversity of India. The 2013 edition of this event is a joint venture with AETN 18 Media Private Ltd. and conducted in three phases:
Phase 1 - City Chapter – 1st week of September to Mid -October
Phase 2 - Regional Chapter- Mid- November to 1st week of December
Phase 3 - National Semi Finals and Finals – Mid -week of December

The interested schools should submit the registration form and confirm their participation on or before 8th August, 2013 by filling in the online registration form (Annexure A) available at www.cbseacademic.in. by entering their affiliation number and school number. It may be noted that the details once entered cannot be altered after the online submission of the form.

The schools are requested to print out the submitted online registration form on a A-4 size sheet and send the copy, along with the DD of INR 600/-, towards Registration Fee, drawn in favour of : `The Secretary, CBSE, Delhi, duly signed by the Head of the school should be sent to: Mr. Sandeep Sethi, Education Officer, CBSE, 17 Rouse Avenue, New Delhi- 110002, by speed post so as to reach the Board not later than 12th August, 2013. The online registration will be considered only after receiving the registration fees through the Demand Draft.

The last date for online registration is 8th August, 2013.The schools are advised to register at the earliest possible to avoid last minute delay.

Second class rail fare, including reservation charges for three students and one teacher escort, will be reimbursed to the teams who will compete in the National Finals.

There are attractive prizes and trophies for the winners besides certificates instituted for all the participants.
First Prize Rs. 21,000/- x 1 team Rs. 21,000/-
Second Prize Rs. 12,000/- x 1 team Rs. 12,000/-
Third Prize Rs. 7,500/- x 1 team Rs. 7,500/-
Fourth Prize Rs. 4,500/- x 1 team Rs. 4,500/-
Second Position at semi-final Rs. Rs. 3,000/- x 4 teams Rs. 12,000/-
Third Position at semi-final 1,500/- x 4 teams Rs. 6,000/-
