Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Research Fellowship (BANRF) for Scheduled Caste Students to pursue M.Phil. / Ph.D.
BACKGROUND: Hundred years ago, in 1913, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar undertook a historic journey to Columbia University, New York for Higher Studies. In grateful commemoration of this, BARTI invites applications from Scheduled Caste candidates of Maharashtra State for the Award of M.Phil. / Ph.D. Fellowships for the year 2013. The fellowship scheme is formulated and funded by BARTI and named as "Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Research Fellowships (BANRF)." The fellowships are open to Scheduled Castes (SC) candidates belonging to Maharashtra who wish to pursue regular and full time M. Phil and Ph.D degrees in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology.
OBJECTIVE:
1. The fellowship has been initiated for SC candidates to provide them opportunity to undertake advanced studies and research. The objective of this award is to provide fellowships in the form of financial assistance to the students belonging to SC category to pursue higher studies leading to M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees (full-time) in Humanities and Social Sciences, and Sciences, Engineering & Technology, in Indian Universities / Institutions / Colleges approved under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act and in Non-Universities / Institutions.
2. The salient feature of BANRF scheme are on the lines of Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF) scheme for SC students, for pursuing M.Phil./Ph.D. Any amendments in the scheme of RGNF in future may be made applicable to BANRF also.
NUMBER OF FELLOWSHIPS: This year, Twenty Five (25) M.Phil. / Ph.D. fellowships will be awarded. However, this number may increase or decrease. In case of increase in number of fellowships, candidates will be selected only on the basis of this advertisement and consequently on applications of the candidates.
RESERVATIONS:
i) 30% fellowships are reserved for SC women candidates.
ii) Three percent fellowships are reserved for physically handicapped SC candidates.
TARGET GROUP: The SC candidates belonging to the state of Maharashtra, who have passed the Post-Graduation examination in the concerned discipline and who desire to pursue full-time research without JRF of UGC-NET or UGC-CSIR NET or RGNF or any other fellowship.
INDICATIVE RESEARCH AREAS: Candidates are free to select any research field relating to Equity and Social Justice. Indicative Research Areas, identified for the time being, are available on the website of this institute. The same will be published in Employment News also. Please note that the list is just indicative, not exhaustive.
ELIGIBILITY: The candidate must get himself/herself registered for M.Phil / Ph.D at the first available opportunity but not later than within a period of two years from the receipt of award letter. This period is not extendable. However the actual payment of fellowship will be made with effect from the date of joining.
NATURE OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE UNDER BANRF:
The selected candidate would be eligible for the financial assistance under;
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Junior Fellowships (BANJRF) and
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Senior Fellowships (BANSRF).
The financial assistance would be on the line of RGNF.
The initial tenure of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Junior Fellowships (BANJRF), evaluations of work of fellow, extension of tenure under the enhanced emoluments of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Senior Fellowships (BANSRF), withdrawal of fellowship, financial assistance (in the form of fellowship, contingency etc.), leave during BANJRF, BANSRF, transfer of fellowship, etc. will be based on existing Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowships (RGNF) for SC students, for pursuing M.Phil. / Ph.D.
SELECTION: Selection will be made on the basis of merit of the candidates and the selection criteria will be decided by BARTI. The decision of D.G., BARTI with regard to selection of candidates for the award of fellowships shall be final.
HOW TO APPLY:
Eligible and interested candidates may send their applications in the prescribed format downloadable from website (click on CCVIS > NOTICE BOARD >BANRF). The candidate should enclose attested copies of all necessary documents along with the duly filled application and Research Proposal including concept note containing research details, etc. in about 2000 words and send by Registered Post to the Director

Completed applications along with all necessary documents and research proposals as mentioned above should reach the above office on or before 31st August, 2013.
NOTE: Record of the candidates, who have not been selected, shall not be preserved beyond three months from the date of declaration of results.
