Post PG Diploma in Geoinformatics in Earth Science
(in affiliation with Osmania University, Hyderabad)
Geological Survey of India (GSI), established in 1851, is a premier earth science organization in the country. Headquartered in Kolkata, it employs over 2000 professional geoscientists in its offices equipped with modern laboratory facilities over the entire length and breadth of the country. In its 162 years of distinguished existence, Geological Survey of India has made significant contribution to nation-building by providing basic earth science information to the government, to the industry, and to the public.
Geological Survey of India Training Institute (GSITI) was established in 1976 to impart Basic, Refresher, and Advanced training in Geological Mapping, Mineral Exploration, and on issues of societal relevance like Natural Hazard Mitigation, Disaster Management, Medical Geoscience, and Environmental Studies to the geoscientists of GSI and other organizations.
GSITI has its headquarters at Hyderabad, where its main training centre is located. This centre consists of specialized divisions such as Petrology, Photogeology and Remote Sensing (PGRS), Geophysics, and the Centre for Geoinformation Management Training (CGMT). In addition to the main training centre, GSITI has its Regional Training Institutes (RTIs) in each regional headquarters of GSI at Lucknow, Jaipur, Nagpur, Shillong, Kolkata, and Hyderabad. Apart from the RTIs, the Training Institute has ten field training centres (FTCs) also, which are located at Aizwal, Bhimtal, Kuju, Kothagudem, Raipur, Zawar, Saketi, Salem, Baula, and Chitradurga. The FTCs are dedicated to imparting training in geological mapping and mineral exploration in varied geomorphic, geological, and structural set-up.
GSITI conducts a Post-PG Diploma Course in Geoinformatics in Earth Science in affiliation with Osmania University, Hyderabad which is a UGC recognized and NAAC accredited university, known for its excellence in the academics. The University is a multi-faculty and multidisciplinary university which has established “University – Industry Hub” for an effective interface between the academia and the industry. GSITI envisions to fill the gap between academic knowledge and field practices with the goal to provide the students a critical understanding of the acquisition, processing, transformation, analysis, storage, presentation, and use of geoinformatics in the domain of earth science. The Post-PG Diploma Course aims to develop skills of the students to design and undertake research and development projects in various fields of geoinformatics independently.
