- TITLE : RANGE NEAREST-NEIGHBOR QUREY
Given a point query in multi-dimensional space, K-Nearest Neighbor
queries return the K closest answers in the database with respect to Query.
It is possible that a majority of the answers may be very similar
to one or more of the other answers, especially when the data has clusters. For
a variety of applications, such homogeneous result sets may not add value to the
user. we consider the problem of providing diversity in the results
of KNN queries to produce the closest result set such that each answer is
sufficiently different from the rest. We first propose a user-tunable definition of
diversity, and then present an algorithm, called MOTLEY, for producing a diverse
result set as per this definition. Through a detailed experimental evaluation, we
show that MOTLEY can produce diverse result sets by reading only a small fraction
of the tuples in the database. Further, it imposes no additional overhead on
the evaluation of traditional KNN queries, thereby providing a seamless interface between diversity and distance.

DEVELOPMENT OF GPS USING L5 TRANSCEIVER :
The Global Positioning System (GPS) provides precise estimates of position, velocity, and time to users worldwide. Although it was primarily developed for military applications, nevertheless it has found its significant use in civilian applications. Currently, GPS is undergoing a stunning change under the ‘Modernisation Program’ that will enhance both military and civil capabilities. The new L5 signal is being launched under this program to enhance civil aviation capabilities, with all new aircrafts fitted with a GPS L5 receiver to facilitate navigation right from take-off to landing.
This development of GPS L5 transceiver project will serve as a ‘basic’ platform for demonstrating the signal structures, modulations, correlation properties, signal and noise analysis. The major components that will be developed for this project are : GPS L5 transmitter and a GPS L5 receiver. As part of these transceiver, modules such as, data generators, Pseudo-random code generators with good correlation properties, FEC encoder/decoder, Neuman-Hoffman coder/decoder, QPSK modulator/demodulator, carrier frequency generation, FFT based acquisition will be developed. As this development serves as a ‘technology demonstrator’, it will be developed in MATLAB. Both the transmitter and receiver will be tested in a looped back mode, i.e., receiver connected to transmitter, to validate the signal structures, modulations, etc.
POST GRADUATE PROJECT :
IMPROVING THE PERFORMANCE OF GPS SIGNALS IN MULTIPATH ENVIRONMENT USING RAKE ALGORITHM :
The improvement in the quality of GPS signals will enhance many advantages such as position accuracy, greater reliability, faster signal acquisition and robustness. Especially, in GPS L2C signal, it has more benefits such as greater data recovery and carrier tracking compared to other GPS signals. Dual frequency operations are also possible in determining the atmospheric delays. The major development in the project is to determine the multipath errors using channel estimation (RAKE) algorithms to improve the performance of GPS signals. In the first phase of the project, the signal acquisition will be determined. And in the second phase of the project, signal tracking can be done in parallel with multipath channel estimation, in which the above mechanisms can be analyzed in MATLAB. It can also be constructed on FPGA to obtain overall performance in real-time applications.
