Indian Institute of Technology Ropar invites applications from Indian citizens for PhD programs in various disciplines during First semester of academic year 2013-2014. Eligibility criteria and areas of research for each department are given below;

Name of the Programme : PhD Programme

Eligibility Criteria:
1. Computer Science and Engineering : B.Tech/B.E. in Computer Science and engineering or equivalent qualification with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) (55% marks for SC/ST) with valid GATE score or candidates with M.Tech./M.E./M.S. or equivalent qualification in computer science and engineering or equivalent degree with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) (55% marks for SC/ST).

2. Electrical Engineering : First Class (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) or 60% marks in M.Tech./M.E./M.S. in Electrical engineering or equivalent degree.

3. School of Mechanical, Materials and Energy Engineering (SMMEE) : To apply for Ph.D. program in SMMEE, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:
1. Master's degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master's degree by Research in Engineering/Technology. Candidates must have obtained at least 60% marks (or 6.5 Grade Point out of 10) in their Master's. OR
2. Master's degree in Sciences with a valid score in GATE/UGC/CSIR/NET/NBHM or equivalent qualification. Candidates must have obtained at least 60% marks (or 6.5 Grade Point out of 10) in their Master's. OR
3. Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology with exceptionally good academic record and having a valid GATE score. Candidates must have obtained at least 60% marks (or 6.5 Grade Point out of 10) in their Bachelor's.
A candidate with a Bachelor's degree from any IIT and having a CGPA/CPI score of 8.00 (out of 10.0) and above are exempted from requirement of GATE qualification to apply.

4. Chemistry : First Class (6.5 grades point out of 10) or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) in Master or equivalent degree in Chemistry/Bio-Chemistry/Materials Science and Technology/ Pharmaceutical Sciences/Biotechnology.
Candidates meeting this requirement must also fulfill one of the following additional requirements tenable for current year:
a) Valid GATE Score.
b) UGC/CSIR-NET qualification.
c) DST-INSPIRE fellowship.

5. Mathematics : First Class (6.5 grades point out of 10) or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) in Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, Engineering Sciences or equivalent Master’s Degree.
Candidates meeting this requirement must also fulfill one of the following additional requirements tenable for current year;
a) Valid GATE score.
b) UGC-CSIR/NBHM or equivalent qualification.

6. Physics : First Class (6.5 grades point out of 10) or 60% marks in M.Sc. in Physics/B.Tech. in Engineering Physics/M.Tech. in Nanoscience.
Candidates meeting this requirement must also fulfill one of the following additional requirements tenable for current year;
a) Valid GATE score.
b) UGC/CSIR NET qualification.

7. Humanities and Social Sciences : 55% (or 6 grade point out of 10) in M.A./M.Sc./M.Phil in Linguistics/English/ Economics with UGC-NET. Candidates interested in interdisciplinary research are also encouraged to apply.

i) Application should be submitted online through the official website OR Candidates that are unable to submit the application online may please send the application form by post.

ii) A complete and duly filled application form should also be sent to the following address. You must write “Application for Admission to Ph.D. in (Department name)” on the top of the envelope.
