Description: The project deals with segmentation of images; it is a major task of image processing. A novel non-parametric unsupervised segmentation algorithm based on Region Competition is proposed using level sets frame work. The proposed model for active contours to detect objects in a given image is based on techniques of level sets theory and Chan – Vese to reach the object boundary. In the level set formulation, the problem becomes a "mean-curvature flow" like evolving the active contour, which will stop on the desired boundary. However, the stopping term depends on the gradient of the images. The result is the segmented image
