Hornby one year MA Scholarship Programme 2013
A S Hornby Educational Trust
The A S Hornby Educational Trust was established in 1961 by A.S.Hornby, an English language teacher in Japan, who authored the first Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary (OALD). The Trust supports the teachings of English as a foreign language through local partnership initiatives with the British Council and by awarding scholarships to English language teachers from developing countries and countries in transition. The Trust focuses on supporting key English language specialists, such as senior teachers, teacher-trainers, inspectors and material writers by offering MA scholarships through the British Council to enable them to study the English language and teaching theory and practice for an academic year in the UK. Graduates are then encouraged to use this knowledge to advance the teaching of English in their home countries.
** Would you like to take an MA course to become leaders and decision makers in your field of work?
** Do you have innovative ideas to support your company/community and wish to spend valuable time in the UK acquiring the knowledge to support your plan?
Take this opportunity as a stepping stone to success and apply now!!
This year we are looking to send two candidates to participate in the MA programme. If you are successful you will be placed in one of the following high quality learning institutes:
** University of Lancaster, Leeds,
** University College Plymouth,
** St Mark and St John (Marjon)
** University of Warwick.

Eligibility :
The successful candidates will have:
Successfully completed an undergraduate degree course equivalent to a Bachelors Degree in the UK (certification must be provided as part of each candidate’s application)
At least 5 years’ hands-on and direct experience as an English language teacher/teacher trainer (as opposed to experience only in a management role, such as co-ordinating policy or running a school)
Been involved in some sort of developmental work as trainers or managers
Attained an overall minimum Band score 6.5 on the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS), with no less than 6 in any of the categories.
The Hornby Trust scholarship package is only provided to candidates wishing to attend a full time UK based ELT Diploma or Masters course.
What If I do not have IELTS score?
It is preferred that candidates applying will have sat the IELTS test. If the chosen candidate does not have an IELTS score already, they should be prepared to sit for the exam on the 19 January 2013 in Chennai. Inability or failure to sit the test on the given date and obtain the appropriate score will lead to a withdrawal of any previous offer of scholarship.

Application Guidelines :
The completed application should be accompanied by:
** Two signed original supporting references one of which must be from the current or last employer
** Certified copies of degree certificates / transcripts where relevant
** A full up-to-date Curriculum Vitae
** A health declaration form
