Almost anyone can donate organs and tissues - there is no age limit on the donation of some organs and tissues. The determining factors are where and how a person dies, and the conditions of their organs and tissues. While your age and medical history will be considered, you shouldn’t assume you’re too young, too old or not healthy enough to become a donor.
These are the 3 most important things you need to do
1. Register Your Decision :
Record your decision on the register and be ensure that your decision will be known.
2. Inform and discuss with your family and dear ones :
Help your family and friends understand and remember your decision
3. Always carry your donor card :
Always carry an Organ Donor Card in your wallet. It is important for your family to be aware of your wishes as WITHOUT their consent your organs / tissue cannot be donated.

About Organ Donation :
Organ donation is the donation of organs of the human body or biological tissue, from a living or dead person to a living recipient in need of a transplantation. Transplantable organs and tissues are removed in a surgical procedure following a determination, based on the donor’s medical and social history, of which are suitable for transplantation.
Organ Donation in India :
Each year hundreds of people die while waiting for an organ transplant. There is a shortage of organs and the gap between the number of organs donated and the number of people waiting for a transplant is getting larger.Transplants as an option have successful outcomes and the number of people needing a transplant is expected to rise steeply due to an ageing population and an increase in organ failure.

Why should you discuss this with your family?
The most important thing is after you have made your decision about whether to become an organ donor - and register that decision – is that you must discuss your wishes with your family. Organ and tissue donation cannot proceed without the consent of the family.
Discuss this topic :
It is important that your family, partner and friends understand those reasons. It is important for people to make an informed decision, so you may like to share the facts around organ and tissue donation included on this website. You may also like to share some of the stories about donors and recipients.
Having the discussion :
A good start is to use everyday situations to start a discussion on important life issues, including what to do with your organs and tissues when you die. There would be situations and opportunities to bring this topic up such as making a will, getting your life insurance, leaving home for the first time as an adult, celebrating an anniversary with your partner, getting a checkup at your doctor, after seeing a traumatic event in the news or after a friend or a family member dies.
