Subject - Mathematics - I Time : 3 Hrs Marks : 75
Unit I
a) Solve: (1+ y2) dx = (tan 1 y x) dy
b) Find the orthogonal trajectories of the family of cardioids r=a (1cos?), where a is the parameter.
Unit II
a) Solve: (D2 + 6D + 9)y = 5x log2.
b)Present mathematical expressions for amplitude and time period for a particle executing Simple Harmonic Motion. A particle is executing simple harmonic motion with amplitude 5 meters and time 4 seconds. Find the time required by the particle in passing between points which are at distance 4 and 2 meters from the centre of force and arc on the same side of it.

a) Find the minimum value of x2 + y2 + z2 given x + y + z = 3a
b) Verify Lagrange mean value theorem for f(x) = x3 x2 5x + 3 in [0, 4]

c) Describe Power Method for the crystal structure determination

4. a) Explain the de-Broglies concept of matter waves and hence deduce the expression for de-Broglies wave length of matter waves.
b) Describe in detail G.P.Thomsons experiment which verified the existence of matter waves.
c) An electron and photon each have a wave length of 2.0 A0. What are their momenta and energies?

5. a) Define dielectric constant.
b) Define different kinds of polarization. Deduce the expression for electronic polarisability.
c) What is meant by superconductivity? Explain Meisner effect

2 a) Ecosystem changes with time in an orderly manner called as Ecological Succession. Elaborate this interesting process.
b) Each ecosystem has biotic and abiotic parts that are linked to each other. Explain the structural and functional components in an ecosystem.
