    PROJECTS :
    M.Tech Project : Analysis of semi-rigid steel frames and comparison with rigid and braced steel frames.
    Description and Summary : This project compares the performances of rigid, semi-rigid and braced types of steel stframes.Two heights of frames viz., 4 storeys and 6 storeys are considered as additional parameters. The frames will be analyzed using STAAD Pro. Internal forces, member sizes and cost of frames with the above options will be considered for comparison. Vertical loads with a standard live load of 4 kN/m2 and lateral loads for earthquake zone-II will be considered. The economy and efficiency of the system will be compared with all three of them.This study indicates that partially rigid steel frames are advantageous and economical than fully rigid structures. Partially rigid frames require smaller column sections and heavier or equal beam sections when compared to fully rigid structures. Structures with 50% to 60% rigidity will need the same amount of steel as fully rigid frames. But if joint costs are compared they will be more economic. Structures with 40% rigidity consume less steel than other frames, i.e, they are the most economic. Braced frames are heavier than other types and are highly material consuming as the height increases. Fully rigid steel frame structures make joint fabrication costly and time consuming. The use of partially rigid frames reduces these disadvantages. Braced frames are sample to fabricate but offer obstruction to openings and movement.
    B.E PROJECT : Comparative Analysis of Reference Evapotranspiration Methods.
    Description and Summary : Performances of several commonly used ETo methods are evaluated relative to the FAO-56 recommended Penman–Monteith method for Mandya district of southern Karnataka. Daily and monthly average ETo values (mm/day) estimated by all the six methods were statistically compared with the preferred FAO-56 PM method using historical daily climate data obtained from the V C Farm of Mandya district. Overall results indicate that the FAO-24 penman method and the temperature-based FAO-24 Blaney–Criddle and FAO-56 Hargreaves method yield ETo estimates comparable to FAO-56 PM estimates. For daily comparisons, the associated minimum SEE are 0.43 mm/d, 0.47 mm/d and 0.56 mm/d for the well performed FAO-24 penman method and the temperature-based FAO-24 Blaney–Criddle and FAO-56 Hargreaves method respectively. For monthly comparisons, the associated minimum SEE are 0.27 mm/d, 0.36 mm/d and 0.37 mm/d for the well performed FAO-24 penman method and the temperature-based FAO-24 Blaney–Criddle and FAO-56 Hargreaves method respectively. But, the radiation based ETo methods do not perform better when compared with FAO-56 PM estimates. The associated SEE with Radiation (RAD) method is 0.84 mm/d and 0.58 for daily and Monthly ETo comparisons. The study suggests that the temperature-based FAO-24 Blaney–Criddle method may be an attractive alternative to the more complex FAO-56 Penman-Monteith method for the estimation of ETo in this region.
