The University invites application (to be downloaded from University website) for admission to 2- year (4 semesters) full time M. Phil Courses (2012-2013 ) under the Faculties of Arts and Fine Arts .
Number of seats :
1. Faculty of Arts : Bengali (16), English (12), Sanskrit (12), Philosophy (07), Political Science (07), History (15) , Economics (09), Education (10), Human Development Studies (03) Women’s Studies (06), Comparative Literature (06)
2. Faculty of Fine Arts : Drama (10). Rabindra Sangeet (10), Dance (10), Instrumental Music (10) Vocal Music (10)
Eligibility : Candidates having Master’s degree with 55% marks (50 % for SC/ST) or its equivalent grade from any UGC recognized University in India or an equivalent degree of a recognized foreign University preceded by graduation with Honours or its equivalent degree in the concerned or allied subject are eligible to apply for admission to the M. Phil Programme of study in his /her disciplinary subject of study or in a subject of allied discipline or in an inter disciplinary subject.
(i) For Human Development Studies (Self-financing) : Master's degree in any subject coming under Humanities and Social Sciences with minimum 55%(50% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate may also apply.
(ii) For Women’s Studies (Self-financing) : Master's degree in any subject with minimum 55% (50% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate may also apply.
(iii) For Comparative Literature (Self-financing) :Master's degree in any Language and Literature subject (e.g. English. Bengali, Hindi, Urdu etc.) with minimum 55%(50% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate may also apply
Admission Procedure : The candidates will have to appear for a written Entrance Test, and if qualified, have to appear for an interview to be conducted by the Department or School or Centre concerned. However, the students who have qualified in the NET / SET / GATE / UGC (JRF) / CSIR (JRF) or Teacher Fellowship Holder will be exempted from appearing in the written Entrance Test to be conducted by the University. Such candidates will have to appear in the interview.
Written Entrance Test and Interview : Written Entrance Test and Interview will be taken for selection of eligible candidates for admission to M. Phil Course .
Interview :
Each and every qualified candidate in Written Entrance Test and the candidates who have qualified in the NET / SET / GATE / UGC (JRF) / CSIR (JRF) or Teacher Fellowship Holder will be required to appear in Interview of 50 marks. The Interview will be conducted by the Department/School/Centre concerned.
Merit list of the candidates will be prepared only on the basis of the marks obtained in Interview.
Fee : Demand draft for Rs.100/- drawn in favour of "Rabindra Bharati University", payable at Kolkata with the downloaded form.
How to Apply :
i) Application form will be available at the University Website only from 24.12.12 to 04.01.2013 ( upto 4:00 p.m.)
ii) The duly filled in downloaded form along with copies of all mark sheets, certificates and other relevant documents and demand draft, has to be submitted in the
Office of the Secretary,
Faculty Councils at 56A,
B.T. Road,
Kolkata - 700 050,
in person (not by post) within 5:00 p.m.04.01.2013 positively
Important Dates :
1. Forms will be available on the website : 24.12.2012 to 04.01.2013 (up to 4 p.m.)
2. Submission of Admission Form : 26.12.2012 to 04.01.2013 (up to 5 p.m.)
3. Publication of provisional eligibility list of candidates selected for written Entrance Test : 10.01.2013 (after 3.00 PM).

Please provide the entrance exam question pattern.
** Written Entrance Test and Interview:
** Written Entrance Test and Interview will be taken for selection of eligible candidates for admission to M. Phil Course .
** Written Entrance Test will be of 100 marks. Total duration of the Test will be 3(three hours).
** Written Entrance Test will have two halves of 50 marks each.
** First half will be common to all candidates belonging to Faculty of Arts. Similarly candidates belonging to the Faculty of Fine Arts will have first half common for all candidates. This half will include Comprehension Test, Qualitative/Quantitative/ Reasoning Aptitude etc. This half willbe known as Common Research Aptitude Test.
** Second half will be subject oriented . It will include Objective Type Questions (10 marks), Short Answer Type Questions (20 marks) and Essay writing on given topic or areas of interest of the candidate etc. {(within 300 words) (20 marks)}.
** In order to qualify for the Interview, each candidate will be required to score at least 50% (45% for SC/ST candidates) marks (marks of 1st half and 2nd half taken together) out of 100 marks.
