Students’ Project Contest

Students’ Project Contest 2013 is a conference activity of the First International Conference on Intelligent Interactive Technologies and Multimedia (IITM 2013) at IIIT Allahabad . It is well recognized that new paradigms for Human Machine Interfaces are being developed which will define the 21 st century standards and enable the world to communicate and interact effortlessly and intuitively.

Project Theme :
Students are invited to submit ‘original’ and ‘non-confidential’ software/hardware projects which would be based on the Conference theme ' Interactive Technologies for Empowering People'.

Few examples of the project problems under this theme are as follows :
** Digital Image Interpreter for Blind
** Speaker Tracking System for Camera
** Gestures recognition system
** Magic Pen
** e-Slate

Rules and Regulation :
** Each team is required to submit software/hardware project which is relevant to the Central theme of the contest.
** Each participating team may have maximum of 4 members and they should register themselves online. On successful completion of online registration process, a Unique ID would be generated for future reference. Team members can be from different colleges.
** An offline registration form is to be filled up specifying above Unique ID and should be forwarded by the Head of the Department (HOD) or equivalent competent authority (If the team members are from different colleges, all of them should get the registration form forwarded by their respective HOD's). The completed form should be sent to the coordinator of the event by speed post/courier to complete the registration process.

Eligibility Criteria :
** The entries are restricted to students (bachelor’s and master’s levels) currently pursuing education in a recognized institute in India.
** The participants may be asked to furnish the supporting documents at a later stage to prove the aforementioned criterion.
** Students from different colleges can form a single team.
** There would be maximum three entries (teams) from the host institute (IIIT Allahabad) to participate (if there are more entries, a panel would internally select three out of them).
** Each team can contain a maximum of four participants.

Phases :
Phase 1 :
A team will have to upload a zipped folder which will contain the following documents :
1. A proposal containing :
a. Title of the project (it has to be relevant to the Central theme of the contest ), introduction, motivation and scope of the problem.
b. Background and Literature Survey (include references at the end and cite them in related work).
c. Proposed Approach (including design/ block diagram) and its Uniqueness.
d. Software libraries and hardware components to be used to implement the project.
e. Inputs, expected outputs and testing/validation scheme.
2. An undertaking that once you get acceptance (based on your proposal) from event organizers for working on the chosen problem, then you would implement & submit it and also Present it during the conference (requirement for Winner and Runner-up teams).
3. Biodata/ CV of each member of the team.

Phase 2 :
A Team will have to upload a zipped folder which will contain the following things :
1. Complete project report giving Abstract, Problem title, introduction, motivation, scope, background & literature survey, proposed approach/design/methodology & its uniqueness, Software libraries and hardware components used to implement the project, implementation details, test data, test results & analysis (snapshots/photographs, testing/validation and performance results for hardware based solution), conclusion highlighting your accomplishments, references, appendix if any etc.
2. Fully documented Source code of the software developed or snapshots of the hardware-based solution developed with explanation of its working and performance results.
3. A PDF file (named “instructions.pdf”), containing installation and execution instructions, and sample test data.
4. Another PDF file (named “requirement.pdf”), containing details of bare minimum software and hardware requirements to run the project.
5. Testing/ validation methodology adopted.
6. An undertaking that the submitted project work is original and non-confidential.

Phase 3 :
** Initial level screening would be done based on submitted project work, at the end of phase 2 by the panel of judges.
** Only one member of the shortlisted team would be invited to demonstrate their projects during conference (9th to 11th March, 2013) and decision on one winner and one runner up would be made by the panel, involving one or more eminent guest/speaker at the conference.
** Only those entries would be considered for award and certificate who present and demonstrate their project during conference on systems provided by IIIT-A. Please bring all resources hardware/software/libraries/etc. IIIT-A would only provide one PC to each team.
** Undertaking has to be given that the project is non-confidential and the work has been done by the team members.

Registration :
.** There is no registration fee. Both online as well as offline registration requirements should be completed.
** First online registration should be completed then offline registration form has to be filled up by putting unique ID generated through online registration.
** Read all rules & regulations carefully before online registration.

Prizes :
** Cash prizes of INR 15,000 (for the Winner team), INR 10,000 (for the Runner-up team ) and Certificates.
** Both the teams would be invited to IITM 2013 (9-11 March, 2013 at IIIT Allahabad) with free conference registration. They will present their projects and receive their awards at the conference.
