Ph.D. Admission Programme (2013)

SUBJECTS : Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (Deemed to be a University) offers the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Economics, Population Studies and Agricultural Economics.

ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY : A candidate with a Master’s Degree in Economics, Population Studies, and Agricultural Economics with at least 55 percent marks (50 percent for SC/ST candidates) from a recognized University/Institute is eligible to apply for the Ph.D. programme of the Institute.

Entrance Examination : Admission to the Ph.D. programme of the Institute will be through an Entrance Examination conducted two times in a year (January and July) at the Institute. However, candidates qualified for UGC (JRF) Examination need not appear for the Entrance Examination.

Interview : The candidates qualified through an Entrance Examination marks will be called for the interview to present/discuss their research proposal/area/interest. However, candidates qualified for UGC (JRF) Examination will be directly called for the interview (without entrance examination) to present/discuss their research proposal/area/interest. The research proposal shall contain the following: research problem, review of literature, conceptual framework, methodology, data sources, selected relevant references etc.

Application Fee : An application fee of Rs. 1450/- (Rs. 725/- for SC/ST) will be charged at the time of submitting the application form.

How to Apply :
i) Application format can be downloaded from the website.
ii) Candidates should send two copies (one original plus one photo copy) each of their application forms, bio-data and the list of publications.
iii) Candidates should send with their application, two copies of admit card(original and not the photocopy), attested certified true copies of the Degree or Diploma Certificates or other Certificates in support of their educational qualifications and experience, statements of marks and of the S.S.C. or equivalent certificate in support of their date of birth. Original certificates should not accompany the application but should be brought at the time of the interview.

Important Dates for admission to Ph.D. Programme (year 2013) :
1. Candidates desirous of seeking admission to the Ph.D. programme should submit their application on or before Friday, November 30, 2012.
2. The Entrance Examination for admission to the Ph.D. programme will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2013.
3. List of the candidates with seat numbers for examination will be displayed on the website on Monday, December 17, 2012.
4. The result of the Entrance Examination will be declared tentatively on Monday, January 21, 2013.
5. The Candidates qualified through an Entrance Examination will be called for the interview to present/discuss their research proposal before the Ph.D. Committee.
6. The date for Interview will be announced immediately after the declaration of the result of Entrance Examination.
7. The Institute would be able to take upto ten students for the Ph.D. programme (year 2013), with applicable reserved quota.
