Earthian 2012 by Wipro :
Environmental challenges and social issues are the biggest challenges of this century.

Today World faces unique dilemmas. Social disparities and uneven growth sharply contrast with rising consumption and "growth" of the middle class. Globalization has created a market for everything but these issues. Environmental and social problems impact the vulnerable first and the most.

Youth from across the world needs to be at the vanguard and to act as a role model to demonstrate how it is possible to grow national wealth in a sustainable manner. Future generations of children and young adults, are the key stakeholders who will be impacted by what is happening.

The nature of these problems requires completely new ways of thinking, sensibilities, changes in behaviors and responses. They require interdisciplinary subject knowledge and a radical change in approaching the problems. Educational institutions are ecosystems where this can flower.

'earthian Sustainability Program for Schools and Colleges' is designed to act as a catalyst for fostering excellence in sustainability thinking and doing amongst young people. The annual awards program is a first step towards a deeper engagement with children and young adults in schools and colleges.

Awards & Recognition :
Awards are addressed at the institutional (school/college) level and not at the individual level. This is to encourage the building of institutional capability in the area of sustainability on a long term basis.

Schools and colleges can create teams to work on submitting entries on a specific statement scenario. Each team can also consist of a faculty member as the guide, with primary contribution, ownership, and representation coming primarily from students.

Award Description :
1. School :
** 10 awards of RS. 100000 ($2000) each, trophy for the institution and certificate for the team. Continuous engagement in the area of sustainability and education with students and winning institutes for next 3 years.
** Appreciation Certificates for top-25 entries from school category

2. College :
** 10 awards of Rs. 150000 ($3000) each, trophy for the institution and certificate for the team. Continuous engagement in the area of sustainability and education with students and winning institutes for next 3 years.

Timelines :
1. Registration Closes :
** 31st August ( India)
** 30th September (Countries Other than India)

2. Submission of Abstract or Table of Content (optional) :
** 15th September ( India)

3. Final Submission :
** 15th October ( India)
** 10th November (Countries Other than India)

Rules :
How to Start?
Choose a scenario (either one provided or anything else) and submit your entry in any of the following formats. After detailing the scenario and related context, the entry could be one or many of the following :
** critique of current state
** challenges
** suggestions to resolve, mitigate
** primary research and analysis
** analysis of secondary data/material

Eligibility :
The awards are open to any educational Institution (school or college) registered anywhere in world.

College :
Students doing full time courses and programs in colleges for a minimum period of 1 year – leading to a recognized degree, are eligible.

School :
Students from Standard/Grade 9th (Freshman) and above are eligible to participate.

How many students can participate in one team?

Team Participation:
** Each institution can send any number of entries against the unique ‘earthian registration number’ of the school.
** There is no restriction on the number of awards that can be applied in one ‘problem statement’ or format.
** Each team can contain a maximum of 4 participants and an additional faculty member. Teams should ideally consist of participants across classes/groups from the same School or College.

Submission of Abstract or Table of Content (optional) : 15th September (India). Date is over

Final Submission : 15th October (India)
