Organization : Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Bangalore
Description : This project tells about Cospas-Sarsat is a satellite system designed to provide distress alert and location data to assist search and rescue (SAR) authorities, using satellites and ground facilities to detect and locate the signals of distress beacons transmitting at 406 megahertz (MHz). The calculated position of the distress and related information is forwarded by the responsible Cospas-Sarsat Mission Control Centre (MCC) to the appropriate national search and rescue (SAR) authorities. Cospas-Sarsat’s objective is to support search and rescue authorities worldwide, whether at sea, in the air, or on land.
Signal processing unit does the detection and processing of received signals. The position of the distress beacon could be located through advanced signal processing techniques like TDOA (Time Difference Of Arrival) and FDOA (Frequency Difference Of Arrival) between signals received through two or more satellites. The location algorithm estimates time delay and Doppler shifts of an emitted distress signal received from satellites.
The purpose of this Project is to implement the Cross Ambiguity Function (CAF) Map method of geo-location in MATLAB7.8. The CAF-Map method simply maps the TDOA and FDOA values in the CAF surface directly to an X, Y coordinate system, thus giving the location of the distress beacon.

Technology has done wonders for the mankind. We have seen prosthetics that helped overcome handicaps. Today, we talk of artificial intelligence that has created waves of interest in the field of robotics. Why can't we help the blind people by using the appropriate technology and their practical possibilities to achieve and navigate those who are lack of vision.
Our main intension through this project is to design and create a stick for blind person that can give audio signals for the obstacles around it. So that people will easily navigate themselves without depending on others. We are going to implement this with help of Embedded systems and programming to the controller AT89C51. The basic parts which are implementing in this project are microcontroller and sound recorder and player IC and the speaker to announce and power supply.
To direct them toward to safe path and avoid any accident due to collision with obstacle. In order to achieve this, three infrared sensors are mounted on a stick. These sensors sense the obstacles around the stick and gives signal to microcontroller. The microcontroller keeps on monitoring the signals. As soon as it receives the obstacle signal, it plays appropriate messages. The person holding this stick then comes to know about the obstacle in the correct direction and he/she can select the safe path. As it consisting of audio signals so that blind person can easily understood.
Even though it consisting of complexity in the circuit designing, but it will guide the blind people without a guide.
