Notification for Admission to Ph.D. Programme for the Autumn Semester of 2012-13 Session
Applications are invited in prescribed form from eligible candidates for admission to the Ph.D. programme under the following departments for the Autumn semester of 2012 – 13 session;

(i) Department : Arabic
Area of research : Arabic Linguistics, Modern Arabic Literature, Islamic Jurisprudence & Rhetoric.

(ii)Department : English
Area of research : Post-1950 British Poetry, Literature and Gender, Literature and Cultural Exclusion, Islamic Heritage and World Literature, Indian Writing in English, Post-colonial Shakespeare, Eco-critisim.

(iii)Department : Geography
Area of research : Urban & Regional Planning, Population Geography, Environmental Geography, and Agriculture Geography.

(iv)Department : History
Area of research : Education and Movements around Muslim Upliftment and Welfare, Women’s studies, Muslim Nationalism in India.

(v)Department : Chemistry
Area of research : General Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Heterocyclic Synthesis, Kinetics, Biophysics.

(vi)Department : Mathematics
Area of research : Mathematical Biology, Graph Theory, Fuzzy Set Theory, Solid Mechanics, Operator Theory/ Functional Analysis, and Astrophysics.

(vii)Department : Physics
Area of research : Nano Technology, Meta-material, Material Science, and Astrophysics.

(viii) Department : Electrical Engineering
Area of research : Control System.

(ix)Department : Electronics & Communication Engineering
Area of research : Wireless Sensor Network.

Fee : Demand Draft of Rs. 500 payable at Kolkata in favour of “The Registrar, Aliah University”

Eligibility :
i) For Sl. Nos. (i) – (vii) : A Master’s degree in the concerned or allied subject from a UGC recognized University/ Institute or such other degree as may be considered adequate for this purpose by this University, with at least a CGPA of 6.0 in 10-point scale or 55% marks. For Sl. No. (viii) and (ix): A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/ Technology in the concerned or allied subject from a UGC recognized University/ Institute or such other degree as may be considered adequate for this purpose by this University, with at least a CGPA of 8.0 on a 10- point scale or 75% marks.
ii) Candidates have to appear at an Admission Test followed by an interview to be conducted by the respective department of the university. The Admission Test is waived for the candidates who have qualified in NET, GATE, SET, SLET, UGC (JRF), CSIR (JRF), or Teacher Fellowship, or in equivalent Examinations or those having an M.Tech., M.E., M.Phil. degree, with CGPA above 6.5 in a 10-point scale. However, they shall be required to appear in the interview.

Scholarship : Some selected candidates will be offered Scholarship-cum-Teaching Assistantship in the respective department.

ii) Duly filled in application form accompanied by an A/C payee Demand Draft (please write the Name and Subject applied for on the back of the DD), two copies of the recent passport size photograph (identical with the same pasted in the form) and other documents regarding age, qualifications, experience etc. duly attested by the candidate must reach the Office of the
