THE INSTITUTE :
Forest Research Institute (FRI) was established in 1878 as a Forest School, later renamed as Imperial Forest Research Institute in 1906. Forest Research Institute is one of the prestigious institutions of Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education (ICFRE). In December 1991, on the recommendation of U.G.C., Ministry of Human Resources & Development, Government of India conferred the status of Deemed University to the Institute. Since then it is playing a vital role in promotion and development of forestry research and education in South Asia.

SAARC –FRI SCHOLARSHIP :
Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India has decided to award 10 Scholarships per year to the students of SAARC Nations for pursuing Post-Graduate Courses at Forest Research Institute (Deemed) University, Dehradun (Uttarakhnad) India from 2012-2013 session. During the courses students will also visit SARRC regional Centre, Thimpu, Bhutan.

THE COURSES OFFERED :
MASTER OF SCIENCE (2 YEARS) :
Forestry
Wood Science & Technology
Environment Management
Cellulose & Paper Technology

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS :
M.Sc. (Forestry) :
Three years bachelor’s/Graduate degree in science with at least one of the subjects namely Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Forestry. The candidate having 50% or above marks may apply.
M.Sc. (Wood Science & Technology) :
Three years bachelor’s /Graduate degree with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or B.Sc. degree in Forestry. The candidate having 50% or above marks may apply.
M.Sc. (Environment Management) :
Three years bachelor’s degree in any branch of basic or applied Sciences or Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or Agriculture or BE in Environment Science. The candidate having 50% or above marks may apply.
M.Sc. (Cellulose & PaperTechnology) :
Graduate degree with minimum 50% marks in aggregate in Science with Chemistry as one of the subjects. BE/B.Tech. (Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with minimum 50% aggregate).

Candidates from SAARC countries are exempted from appearing in the M.Sc. admission test provided they have passed the above mentioned eligibility requirement from a University outside India and fulfill the following conditions :-
1. The candidates must have a valid residential permit in India granted for studies/ students Visa for the prescribed duration of the concerned courses,
2. The antecedents of the candidates must have been verified by the forwarding Agencies/ Govt. of India and found in order,
3. The candidate must have a certificate to be verified by the Ministry/ Agencies to the effect that candidates had been subjected to AIDS test and found negative,
4. The degree/certificate of the candidates must have been approved by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) or equivalent to the corresponding degrees/ certificates of the AIU,
5. Candidates must have adequate knowledge of English (10+2) level as per requirements of the course as the medium of instruction is English.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE :
Application forms can be downloaded from the website www.icfre.gov.in. The Application duly filled in should be sent so as to reach the Registrar, Forest Research Institute (Deemed) University, P.O.I.P.E., Kaulagarh Road, Dehradun – 248195 (Uttarakhand), INDIA on or before 29th June, 2012. The Selected candidates would be informed latest by 06th July, 2012 and would be expected to join the course by 12th July, 2012. The course would end by June, 2014.
