    Status : Completed
    Summary :
The objective of this research was to develop sublingual tablets of Sumatriptan succinate, a class of 5-HT1 agonist which is effective in the treatment of migraine. The tablets were prepared by direct compression. The drug is bitter in taste and the taste masking of the drug was done with different sweeteners, flavours. Sumatriptan succinate dispersion was prepared with mannitol and blended with sweetener and flavour. The hardness of all the formulation was in the range 4.0-5.0 KP. The percentage friability of all the formulations was found to be not more than 0.8%. In all the formulation, the drug content was found to be uniform among the different batches of tablets and ranged from 97.37% to 100.51%. The average percentage deviation for 20 tablets from each batch was within the acceptable pharmacopeial limits. The wetting time of the tablets was found to be less than one minute. The in-vitro drug release of the taste masked formulation was found to be 100% within 15min.
    - B.Pharm Project Title : Formulation and Evaluation of Floating microspheres of Atenolol
    Status : Completed
    Summary :
Atenolol is a ß1 selective antagonist which is primarily used in cardiovascular diseases. The aim is to prepare Gastro retentive Microspheres containing atenolol and to study its retentive property in terms of in-vitro release. Microspheres of atenolol were prepared with polymers Hydroxyl propyl methyl cellulose and Ethyl cellulose using solvent evaporation technique. The obtained Microspheres were studied for the surface morphology, encapsulation efficiency, percentage yield, particle size, in vitro release and they are encapsulated in the capsules and evaluated. Microspheres obtained were circular, uniform ranging from 0.5-10µ. The encapsulation efficiency was found to 95.122%, Percentage yield as 24.14%. The in vitro drug release was found to be 49.19% over a period of 12h. The capsules were also evaluated for its uniformity of weight, Drug content uniformity, Disintegration time. The floating microspheres of atenolol control the drug release up to 12hrs at pH of 1.2.
