    UNIT-I
    2. Explain the spectral series in hydrogen spectrum. How are the spectrum lines modified by considering the finite mass of the nucleus?
    3. What is spin-orbit coupling? Explain L-S coupling taking the case of one and two active electrons.

    UNIT-II
    4. Discuss the theory of anomalous Zeeman effect and draw the energy level diagram for splitting of sodium D lines.
    5. What are different types of line broadening? Explain Doppler broadening.

    UNIT-III
    6. Discuss the principle, working and use of microwave spectrometer.
    7. Explain the theory of diatomic molecule as a vibrating rotator and find the expression for rotational constant.

    8. What is Raman effect? Discuss the characteristics of Raman lines. What is the importance of Raman effect?
    9. How Raman and I-R spectra are useful in determining the structure of a diatomic molecule?

    UNIT-V
    10. Write the salient features of molecular electronic spectra. Using Fortrat diagram explain P, Q and R branches in electronic transition of a diatomic molecule.
    11. Discuss the theory of NMR spectroscopy. How it is useful in determining the structure of a molecule?
