IIT Gandhinagar is looking for bright and dedicated young scholars interested in research to join us as PhD scholars. Currently, we offer PhD programme in several disciplines in Engineering (Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Materials Science and Engineering), Sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) and Humanities & Social Sciences (Cognitive Science, English, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology). Prospective students satisfying the eligibility criteria are encouraged to acquaint themselves with the research areas of our faculty members for suitable match of interest. Prospective candidates should consult the project profiles of faculty members before applying for PhD program.

IIT Gandhinagar also offers a Start Early PhD Fellowship with additional financial support for exceptionally qualified undergraduate students wishing to start on a direct PhD programme. Please refer to the general information enclosed below and the Start Early application form for additional details.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria :
At least 55% marks in MA/MSc/B.Tech/M.Tech or equivalent degree in appropriate branches. Above mentioned eligibility criterion is the minimum; individual disciplines may use higher cut off levels for short listing. Candidates belonging to SC/ST categories would be eligible for relaxations, as per norms, in the selection criteria.
Course Work Requirement :
IIT Gandhinagar strongly believes in value addition through course work. There is a significant amount of course work a PhD student needs to do depending on his/her background.
Residential Requirement :
PhD programme is fully residential. The regular candidates will have to stay on campus. For external candidate the minimum residential requirement is normally one year. For candidates under Faculty Development Program, currently 2 years of residency requirement after completion of 1 year of advanced admission is followed.

If you are applying for more than one discipline, please submit a separate application for each discipline.
Applicants working in educational institutes are encouraged to apply under the Faculty Development Programme.(FDP). However, applicants from research/industrial organizations can use the opportunity to apply in External (ET) category.
