Abstract :-
Exposure to Ultra-violet radiation can cause severe damage to natural fiber/hair. Of the different wavelength of UV, UV-B corresponding to 280-320nm is reported to have the most severe effect. UV damage of natural fibers like hair or wool involves photodecomposition of amino acids like cystine. Measuring the changes in cystine and the end product of cystine degradation namely cysteic acid on fibers using spectroscopic technique would be a key indicator of measuring the photo damage suffered.
