Project title : ILLUMINATION DESIGN OF UNDERGROUND MINE MODEL
- As a part of 8th semester VTU curriculum, we designed illumination in underground mine, in a team size of four we completed the project under the guidance of our lecturer & HOD.
- Description of the Project :
- This Project discusses system design criteria and procedures, data and specifications to aid in selection of suitable mine lighting hardware, and guidelines for system installation and maintenance.
- The primary objective of this project is, to identify the major problems encountered in the lighting application and to provide guidance in the solution of these Problems.
- If they are carefully designed and implemented, lighting systems provide mine workers improved visibility and contribute to safety, productivity, and comfort.
- This project is a new approach on “illumination design of underground mine” based on the matlab software, this project gave light to our college mine with a new technology .
- In this project we designed a Matlab program using C, we calculated the illuminance level vertically & horizontally using the inverse square law & lamberts cosine law. The input to the program involves point source, height, width, wattage & output will be the simulated result of the luminaires intensity, inclination angle & illuminance.
- Practically we designed a model in our college campus for three different luminaires (LED, CFL, & Incandescent) with different wattages. We measured the illuminance level vertically & horizontally at different heights & width using a Digital Luxmeter and compared with the design values of the program.
- We also visited the SCCL coal mines Andhra Pradesh & we practically designed the values for illuminance of sodium vapor & incandescent lamps in underground and open cast mine.
- Comparative statements for different types of lamps like sodium vapor, LED, halogen, HID, fluorescent lamps are studied.
