TRAINING
As the mission of the Institute suggests, training of the Elected Representatives and the functionaries of the Panchayati Raj Institute (PRI) is the main function of the Institute. Accordingly, the Institute has been imparting training to the target group under various projects/programmes, so as to develop their capacities to improve the delivery of the various Rural Development Schemes. During the recent years the Institute has been conducting special trainings campaigns, one such campaign was organized for the newly Elected Representatives of the Panchayati Raj Institute sin 2005, to orient them in the functioning of the PRIs, their duties and functions etc. another campaign was organized in 2009-10 for all stake holders under MGNREGA and during this year ie. 2010-11 another campaign is under way to build capacities of the PRI Representatives elected in Feb.2010.

In addition to the said campaigns the Institute has been organizing training programmes for the Officials of the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department and the Elected Representatives on subjects like Decentralized Planning, Rural Development, good governance, basic computer awareness, stress management, PMGSY, Saksharta Mission, etc..

For imparting the above trainings the Institute has state of the art equipment to support the knowledgeable faculty. All the conference halls are equipped with computers and LCD Projectors, Overhead Projectors, Visualisers, Public Address Systems and Interactive Pads, besides being fully air-conditioned. The Institute has an auditorium to cater to the needs of larger training including around 350 participants. The Institute organizes around 100 training programmes/ workshops every year.

Training Strategy
The Institute has evolved its unique strategy for planning and conducting need based PRI training and learning events in a decentralized campaign mode through effective training cascades. Each round of a systematic training cycle for PRIs is operationalised along 5 main stages as indicated below:

Needs Assessment (TNA)
Carried out through multi-stakeholder interactive workshops, entailing brainstorming sessions, focus group discussions, and opinion polls and in depth interviews with representative stakeholders.

Computer Trainings
The Computer cell of institute provides Basic Computer Skills Training to Non-Gazetted Employees of Zila Parishads & Panchayat Samitis. The main focus is to train the Staff and officials concerned with rural development. The Course is aimed at enhancing the capability of personnel for better use of computers in Office Automation. Average two courses are conducted per month in the batches of 20 to 30 participants.

The Syllabus comprises of familiarization with Main applications of MS-Office i.e. MS-Word, MS-Excel, Power Point Presentations clubbed with introduction to Internet and E-mailing etc. AUTO-CAD trainings are organized to brush up the technical skills of engineering personnel. The institute also hosts various training programs organized by different departments.The institute is now looking forward to conduct computer trainings in a decentralized fashion.
