Training
NIRD recognizes that the cutting edge to the development is the quality of the key personnel implementing the developmental programmes. Its efforts are directed towards development of these human resources. Over the years it has sharpened its tools and techniques by developing appropriate training material.

NIRD is a school for practicing managers engaged in rural development. Over 150 programmes involving about 3000 participants are organized annually mostly sensitizing policy makers, elected representatives of the people, young civil servants and media professionals. It also trains functionaries from the Government, development banking institutions and community based organizations to help carry forward and spread the message of all-round rural development.

Curriculum development, preparation of training manuals and training guidelines are its forte. Custom-made training programmes were conducted for the senior officers of Bangladesh, Ethiopia Nigeria, Uganda, in recent years. Besides, it offered study visits to rural development functionaries from some of the countries of Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe.

The strength of NIRD lies in its well qualified and experienced faculty having international exposure. It is divided into various Centres of specialization ranging from sustainable economic development, women's development to human resource development, organizational development and extension and transfer of technology, besides planning and evaluation.

Module - I
Rural Housing Policies and Programmes: A review of the Policy initiatives to achieve shelter for all BPL families during Eleventh Plan Period

Session – I
TITLE:
Rural Housing Policies, Programmes and Achievements: An overview

OBJECTIVE:
To provide the participants with adequate knowledge and understanding about the policies and programmes for rural housing in India

CORE CONTENTS:
** Review of the National Policies and Programmes for Rural Housing
** State wise Housing Shortage and Demand
** State specific Initiatives to meet the Demand for Housing
** State wise Targets and Achievements under Central and State sponsored Housing Schemes

METHOD:
Lecture cum discussion

OUTCOME:
The participants will gain adequate knowledge and understanding about Rural Housing Policies and Programmes and also appreciate the commitment of the government to provide shelter for all BPL families

Session – II
TITLE:
Indira Awas Yojana : Genesis, objectives and achievements

OBJECTIVE:
To provide the participants with adequate knowledge and understanding about the need and importance of IAY towards achieving shelter for BPL families in rural areas.

CORE CONTENTS:
** Indira Awas Yojana : Genesis and objectives
** State wise targets and achievements in respect of different target groups under IAY
** State wise physical and financial progress under IAY
** State specific success stories / case studies on IAY

METHOD:
Lecture cum discussion and case presentation

OUTCOME:
The participants will gain adequate knowledge and understanding about initiatives under IAY and also appreciate its need and importance.
