Basic Course in Psychological Counseling: The six month certificate course in Basic Course in Psychological Counseling offers the chance for students to learn specific counseling skills and gain the theoretical background needed for being a psychological counselor.

The course is designed to be equally distributed between theory and practical skills. To aid in the development of counselors, supervision by trained psychologists / counselors is provided to ensure the all round development of counselors. Training in counseling is inadequate without practical application. Thus, in addition to classes twice per week, students of the course will be placed at different pre–determined sites (schools, NGO’s, colleges or clinics) and clinical supervision will be provided.

One half of the course will focus on theoretical content including but not limited to, the basics of psychology, human development, personality, abnormal behavior, theories of counseling, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention. The other half will consist of practical skill training achieved through role-plays, experiential learning, practicum, lectures and demonstrations and other learning techniques. Clinical supervision (one on one meeting) will be conducted once per week and is a mandatory part of the coursework.

The course places a high premium on training counselors who maintain the highest standards of professionalism and use the current standards of practice in the field of counseling. Thus, it is a time intensive course, with twice a week classes, once a week supervision, readings to be completed at home and internship placements at a variety of settings.
