Animal Veterinary OfficerSyllabus
1. Modified mendalian inheritance principles, gene interactions, quantitative inheritance, genetics constitution of population and concept of environment and genotype. Preliminary ideas of heritability, repeatability,
genetic and phenotypic correlations. Breeding methods, methods of breed improvement with special reference to selection. Open nucleus breeding system and progeny testing programmes.
2. Important breeds of cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat, pigs, poultry, horses and camels with special reference to their importance, economic characters, adaptability and management practices.
3. Composition of animal body. Proximate Analysis of nutrients. Major and minor nutrients and their functions. Digestion, absorption and metabolison of carbohydrates, fat and protein in ruminant and non-ruminant.
Role of Minerals and vitamins and their deficiency in livestock & poultry.
4. Common feeds and fodders of Rajasthan, Conservation & preservation of feeds & fodder. Balanced ration and its computation. Feeding standards & nutrient requirement for growth, milk production, pregnancy &
work. Digestibility, its measurement and factors affecting digestibility. Anti-nutritive factors in feeds and fodder.
5. Avian production and management. Dairy production and management with special reference to comparative study of constituents of milk of cows, buffaloes, goats and other species, milk processing and testing.
Abattoir practices and animal by-product technology.
6. General Pharmacology : Pharmacology of drugs acting on digestive, respiratory, nervous, excretory and circulatory systems. Chemotherapy, anthelminitics, insecticides and vitamins. General toxicology with
important toxicities by metals, non-metals, plants, drugs, agrochemicals, venomous bites and stings.
7. General veterinary microbiology. Introduction to general veterinary parasitology including helminthology, entomology & acarology and protozoology. Introduction to general, systemic and special veterinary
pathology.
8. General and systemic clinical veterinary medicine including etiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, nervous and integumentary systems. Principles
and concept of general epidemiology, modes, clinical manifestations, treatment, prevention and control of infectious diseases of animals including poultry. General principles of milk, meat, environmental hygiene,
zoonoses and public health. General principles of veterinary jurisprudence and ethics.
9. General principles of milk, meat, environmental hygiene, zoonoses and public health. General veterinary surgery, anesthesiology, operative procedures in small and large animals.
10. Reproductive anatomy and physiology of animals. Characters of estrus in different species of domestic animals. Andrology and artificial insemination. Pregnancy diagnosis, diseases and accidents during gestation. Fertility, infertility and sterility in male and female animals.
11. Principles of Veterinary and Animal husbandry Extension. Extension Techniques in Veterinary practice and Livestock Production, Livestock economics and marketing.
