JYOTIRMOY BORO, OF MARIA'S PUBLIC SCHOOL, Guwahati has been awarded the 'Chacha Nehru Sports Award' for being BEST PLAYER BOYS UNDER 14 YEARS for the year 2011-12 . He has received a cheque for Rs, 6000/- from C.B.S.E.

Trivarg Arandhara of Class VI represented Maria's Public School in the CBSE Cluster Games held at Noida from 29th September - 2nd October'2011. Trivarg was declared the Group Champion as he bagged three Gold Medals in all the three groups.He has been selected to participate in the National Games in Bhopal in November'2011

Maria's Public School offers annual awards and scholarships in the two categories named here :
I The MAH (Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazarika) literary prize scholarship is awarded to the best creative writing entry and carries a cash award of Rs. 5000. The competition is open to students of MPS and the award is decided by a jury comprising academics and litterateurs besides selected teaching faculty.

MAH, best remembered for his inimitable GYAN-MALINI (an anthology of poetry that remains a distinct contribution to Assamese literature) was not only an eminent poet and writer but also the President of Asom Sahitya Sabha. MAH worked ceaselessly towards the uplift of the Assamese language, literature and culture and his name is rightly glorified in the Annals of Assam's history. The MAH award is a modest attempt to remember this wonderful man of letters.

II The Sofia Zaman Ahmed award is a prize given to the Best Quizzer in the Inter-School quiz event held annually and carries a running trophy besides a cash prize of Rs. 5000/-.

Mrs. Sofia Z. Ahmed, herself a lady of great vision and determination was among the first batch of students of the reputed Lady Keane Girls College of Shillong. She had immense faith in the capacity of women to carve out their own niche in every sphere of activity and firmly endorsed the need for women's emancipation and education. In life, she quietly demonstrated and upheld excellence, equality and freedom in both thought and action for women, and has been the chief inspiration behind the setting up of Maria's Public School by her daughter.

As a rich tribute to this lady of courage and insight, the school is proud to institute the annual Sofia Z. Ahmed award and promote her belief in the spirit of enquiry.
