Training Process
We know that an investment advisor's decisions are only as good as the people making the decisions. That is why we have invested a great deal of time and energy in building a comprehensive training program for our analysts. Our goal is ambitious but straightforward: create an infrastructure that consistently produces superlative institutional quality research.

Our Analyst Training Program is based on a successful track record consisting of management's experience and a proven classroom and training regime. It begins with an intensive two month in classroom immersion program. It ensures that new analysts leave the classroom with a solid knowledge of fundamental analysis who can immediately apply this knowledge to analyze companies the Transparent Value way. The core curriculum covers the following:

CORPORATE FINANCE BASICS: This step is a refresher of the most important concepts of Corporate Finance. Areas that are covered in this step include: Time Value of Money, Enterprise Value, EBITDA, capital structure, leverage, WACC and internal rate of return, and various valuation methodologies, e.g., compatibles, multiples, value of asset, break-up, and discounted free cash flow.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT ANALYSIS: This step builds upon basic accounting and financial statement concepts by focusing on the major components of SEC filings, including Management Discussion & Analysis, Financial Condition and Results and how to analyze the myriad of footnotes. Trainees engage in hands-on analysis to immediately apply newly learned concepts in a real-world scenario. The analysts are given eight SEC filings for analysis.

FREE CASH FLOW STATEMENT CONSTRUCTION: This step covers the basics of financial accounting and understanding financial statements and their most important components in the context of financial analysis. This is not an Accounting class, but, rather, is a perfect course for those needing a refresher or a financial statements crash course as it relates to financial analysis. Trainees engage in hands-on analysis to immediately apply newly learned concepts in a real-world scenario. The analysts analyze up to 10 companies before moving to the next step

COMPANY BUSINESS MODEL ANALYSIS AND REVENUE MAP CONSTRUCTION: This step provides the know-how and techniques to analyze a company's business model so that a trainee can summarize the most important aspects of a company. Trainee analysts learn how to build a company's revenue map by breaking it down into its smallest components. Trainees engage in hands-on analysis to immediately apply newly learned concepts in a real-world scenario. The analysts map up to 10 companies before moving to the next step.

APPRENTICESHIP: This step concludes the training and introduces a trainee to actual analytical work. Each trainee is assigned to one of our Senior Analysts and is closely monitored and guided for the first month of work.
