PROFILE OF CIMeT:
Chidambaram Institute of Maritime Technology [CIMeT] was established in 1997 under the CSC Trust as a dedicated institution, to train Engineering Graduates as Marine Engineers to cater to the needs of the Maritime Industry. The institute is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping for conducting the Training Course and is certified under ISO Standard - ISO 9001 – 2008. Pursuant to the approval of the Director General Shipping permitting the Diploma Holders in Engineering to be trained for two years for conversion as Marine Engineers, the Institute admits the Diploma Holders from Polytechnics approved by the Department of Technical Education for the Training Course.

Our Founder / Chairman, is an accomplished Marine Engineer, having served for several years as Chief Engineer on Ships , with a wealth of knowledge about Operation and Maintenance of Shipboard Machinery. CIMET

His mission, to put into use his wealth of experience to training and conversion of Engineering Graduates and Diploma Holders as Marine Engineers, led to setting up of the Institute of excellence.

CIMeT operates from a campus in beautiful serene rural surroundings and yet not far from the port city of Chennai which is a leading maritime education and training centre The Institute has attached Hostel and Canteen facilities for the Trainees.

CIMET is supported by, Chidambaram Shipcare Private Limited, the first Indian Ship Repair Company to be certified in 1996 under the ISO 9002 Quality Standards, which has been serving the repair needs of the ships since 1979, at Chennai and other Ports of India and abroad. It supplements the Practical Training requirements of the trainees of CIMeT and was imparting Marine Engineering Training since 1990 with the approval of the Director General of Shipping.

The institute possesses well qualified Faculty and experienced Instructors to train and guide the trainees in achieving the required knowledge and skill levels as prescribed by the Director General of Shipping. The Marine Engineers trained in CIMeT and serving on Indian and foreign Ships have acquitted themselves well as efficient and hardworking.

LIFE AT SEA:
From time immemorial the sea has always held a special fascination for man. For centuries man has gone out to sea in the most primitive of ships, and despite a hard, unforgiving life, found great deal of joy and fulfillment.

Today, albeit ships being technological marvels, the call of the sea for some is as primitive and strong as it was for our forefathers. Notwithstanding material comforts, ease of communications and a good salary, life at sea is still tough. Yet the level of maturity and self reliance one gets within a short time of working at sea can never be achieved elsewhere.

The challenging career at sea, does not render one unfit for jobs ashore and one does not have to remain an old sea dog, unless one chooses to. The qualifications, skill, experience and ability to handle crisis situations one gets at sea are much in demand ashore. With 10 to 15 years experience at sea, one can easily slip into a senior management position ashore.
