510. ENGLISH LITERATURE FROM CHAUCER TO 1660

Answer any FIVE questions from Section-A
and THREE questions from Section - B.

SECTION - A ( 5× 8 =40)
Annotate the following :
1. (a) But he was lyk a maister, or a pope; Of double worstede was his semycope That rounded as a belle out of the presse.
(b) She was a worthy woman all her life Husbands at church door she had had five Withouten other company in youth But thereof needth not to speak as mouth.
2. (a) Where now the studious lawyers have their bowers There whylome wont the Templer Knights to byde Till they decayed through pride.

5. (a) And let them not too much apply themselves to the disposition of the children, as thinking they will take best to that which they have
most mind to.
(b) There is no vice, that doth so cover a man with shame, as to be found false and perfidions.
6. He bears The visible mark of the beast in his forehead
And for his stone, it is a work of darkness, And with philosophy binds the eyes of man.

8. (a) Explain in detail how the Dutchess of Malfi faces her end.
(b) Consider Uptopia as a travelogue.
