FELLOWSHIP
Alunkal Family Fellowship
December 26, 1995 was unique in the history of Alunkal Family. It was on this day that the idea of the Fellowship was seeded by a small group of family members, headed by late Shri A.M.Thomas. A General Body consisting of all the adult members of the family met in February 1996 and elected an Executive Committee under the president ship of Shri A.M.Thomas. The meeting was co-chaired by Smt Saramma Kurian and Shri A.V.Thomas. The General Body adopted a special resolution to include married daughters and their husbands in the Fellowship. The General Body also decided to extend membership to the children of the married daughters, who had to come back to the family in trying circumstances.

HISTORY
The Genesis
The invasions by Hyder Ali and later, by his son Tippu Sultan, from the neighboring state of Mysore, upset the peaceful life of the people. Many areas in the Malabar region fell pray to the invading army. These invasions took place between AD 1766 and 1791. People fled from their homes fearing the sword of Tippu. History reveals that those belonging to the upper class families were more affected by these invasions. There was mass exodus of local rulers, land lords and people from the upper echelons in the society fearing coercion, looting and religious conversion. Among them were members of the Alunkal family.
The following questions remain to be further addressed:
- Who were all there with the migrant family (relatives, neighbors, others?
- The lineage of Shri Itteerah?
- What is the link between the Alunkal family at Kandanad and those families bearing the same surname, which include even some Namboodiri families?
- Did everybody in the team settle at Kandanad; if not, where did others go?
- What is the ancestral connection of the family, with those bearing the same surname, at Angamali (Akaparambu), Manarkad, Ezhakkaranad, Pambakkuda, etc?
These and many more questions leave us with immense scope to undertake further search into the past. Also, details of the family, which thrived in Kodungalloor before the migration, major and minor branches, etc leave lot of virgin soil for further exploratory work.
