Entrance Examination (HSEE 2012)

Time: 10.00 to 13.00 hours
IIT Madras organizes HSEE – 2012 for admission to the five year integrated Master of Arts Programme (M.A) in two disciplines: Development Studies and English Studies. Application process for HSEE – 2012 is entirely ONLINE . Online application site opens from Dec. 20, 2011 to Jan. 20, 2012.

Qualifying Examinations :
Candidates applying for HSEE-2012 should have either completed or are appearing in 2012 in any one of the following qualifying examinations (QE) :
The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central / State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi; etc.
Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Exami-nation conducted by a recognized Board / University.
Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
General Certificate Education (GCE) Exami-nation (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University.
Any Public School / Board / University Exami-nation in India or in any foreign country recog-nized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.
H.S.C. Vocational Examination.
Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
The HSEE2012 examination is of three hours duration and has two parts.
Part I is a purely objective type multiple choice question paper for 2½ hours administered through computer.
It covers questions on English and Comprehension Skills, Analytical and Quantitative Ability, and General Knowledge covering the areas of Indian Economy (since Independence), Indian Society, Contemporary World Affairs (Post-World War II), and Environment & Ecology. Syllabus for the examination is here as well as in the Information Brochure.
Part II is an essay writing for ½ hour to be written on answer paper which will be distributed to the candidates at the end of Part I.
Language of Question Paper: English.
Important Notes:
(i) Admission to a candidate will stand cancelled, if the proof of having passed the QE, as per the eligibility criteria specified in Section 11.2 of Information Bulletin, is not submitted to the Institute latest by September 30, 2012.
(ii) Admissions are subject to verification of facts from the original certificates / documents of the candidates. If an applicant is found ineligible at a later date even after admission, his/her admission will be cancelled. The decision of the HSEE Admission Committee regarding the eligibility of any applicant shall be final.
(iii) A candidate must satisfy all the aforesaid eligibility criteria in order to be eligible for appearing in HSEE-2012 / admission.
The online application fees ( Exclusive of Bank Charges )
Rs. 1600/- (for general category, OBC students)
Rs. 800/- (SC/ST, Physically Disabled).
No Application fee for Female candidates.
Pay by :
Indian Bank Challan at any branch of Indian Bank across the country.
OR
Account Payee Demand Draft drawn in any nationalised Bank in favour of:
Chairman, HSEE, IIT Madras,
payable at Chennai.
Note: Indian Bank will charge Rs. 10/- as their processing fee. For DD the Banks will charge a suitable additional amount. Payment must be made during December 20, 2011 to January 25, 2012.
