For purposes of admission, the teaching departments or courses of study are grouped under the following two heads

Admission and Reservations
Admission to the various courses of study except MMBS, MD, MS, Diploma course in Medical Science, MCA and DCA shall be open to all persons irrespective of race, creed, caste or calls subject to the following conditions:
** 15% and 7.5% seats shall be reserved for S.C. and S.T. candidates respectively who have passed their qualifying examination from Himachal Pradesh University or H.P. Krishi Vishwavidyalaya or Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forstry.
** The remaining 77.5% seats shall be filled as under:
** 25% of the seats for admission shall be open for all the candidates irrespective of the institution from where they have passed their qualifying examination.
** 75% of the seats shall be filled out of the candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from Himachal Pradesh University or H.P. Krishi Vishwavidyalaya or Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry subject to the following reservations:
** 5% of the seats shall be reserved for outstanding sportsman/woman;
** 5% of all the seats shall be reserved for outstanding cultural activists;
** 3% of the seats shall be reserved for physically handicapped candidates;
** provided that the minimum eligibility for admission to a course in the case of S.C., S.T. and outstanding sportsmen will be 5% lower than the eligibility condition for other students except for LL.M. cours
Supernumerary Seats
(1) Some supernumery seats reserved for admission to bonafide Himachal War Widows in all courses of study in campus except MCA, DCA, MBA, MIBM, MTA, MFC and M.Sc. Biotechnology. (2) In B.Ed.(Medical), two seats reserved for in-service candidates (3) The supernumerary seats in MTA shall be reserved for in-service personnel functioning in the tourism sector.

A. Fellowships
(1) H.P.U. Senior Fellowships, for Post Doctoral Research
(2) H.P.U. Junior Research Fellowships for LL.M./Ph.D.
(3) U.G.C. Junior Research Fellowships for Ph.D.

B. Scholarships
1. Subjectwise Merit Scholarships:
(a) One scholarship per subject in which Post-Graduate facilities exist in the University.
(b) One Scholarship per subject on the basis on the result of M.A./M.Sc./M.B.A./M.Com.I and II semester examinations taken together.
(c) One Scholarship on the basis of the result of LL.B.I and II semesters examination taken together.
(d) One Scholarship on the basis of LL.B.I, II, III and IV semesters examination taken together.
2. Group Wise Merit Scholarships: Eleven scholarships on the basis of aggregate marks at graduate level examination preceding the admission in various faculties.
3. Sports Scholarships : Sixteen Scholarships for outstanding Sports Men/Women at the Post-Graduate level, each of value of Rs.200/- per month.
4. Cultural Activities Scholarships : Ten Scholarships of the value Rs.200/-per month for the full Academic Session i.e.1st July to 30th June.
